Solid Game. Reality is that if you liked KCD 1 you're going to love KCD 2. If you didn't like KCD 1... Think about giving this one a shot. It really is just the first game but more refined in every way.

Pros:
Excellent story and moments meaning that you feel invested to what's going on. The humor, writing, and attention to detail sell a lived in world. Main story characters are interesting and fun to talk to and it makes you want to spend time with them.

The two maps available are fairly large with plenty of places to visit and see. Good voice acting from the main cast and acceptable for side characters with some notable highlights there as well.

Skill system made my play through enjoyable, Only at the end of my play through did I max out some of the stats so the progression felt good as a character. In the beginning you'll feel very weak so you have to play smarter and rely on unconventional tactics to get what you want.

Music is varied: Tense when it needs to be, exciting when it comes to combat, grand when the story demands it. A mixture of orchestral and choir tracks brings the world alive.

Ok:

Combat is improved but not perfect. Simple to learn, easy to exploit. Compared to KCD 1 you have more options to play with especially when it comes to ranged combat. Animations are good if a bit repetitive. The fighting especially in the beginning of the game is tense as a solid hit can cause issues. You'll find its best to pick off those you can through stealth or ranged options to make things easier. Unfortunately for the melee end there is more emphasis placed on swords because of the Masterstrike mechanic. This can trivialize combat as the enemy has no counter play. The only threat to you toward the late game is if you allow yourself to be cornered by multiple foes. You can still use axes or polearms but the best weapons in this case are swords.

Note* If you plan on fighting on uneven ground the combat breaks with the camera zipping around making life difficult for you.

Stealth is simple. The AI will react to bodies and open doors but not much more than that. Seldom have I found that they develop causality between events. Once you get your stealth stat up I found it be ultra simplistic and rather easy to do. Thievery (Lockpick and Pickpocket) is just a matter of building up the skill initially and becomes trivial very fast.

The bad:

Merchants and money does not scale well into the 2nd half of the game. Money becomes easy to get and merchants can't afford more than 1 piece of armor from bandits. I was the richest man in Bohemia 40+ hours in.

Missed several quests especially romance quests in my main playthrough because of progressing the main story. Now to clarify this wasn't me ignoring the warning on critical story parts. There was only two times to my knowledge it does that, but rather it locked me out of quests I wanted to do. There were several new quest markers on the map for people but I couldn't do anything to get them started. Not sure if a bug or I missed something.

No content post main story. It just sort of drops in town after completing the main story. No epilogue for a lot of places that you've done quests and things for. Most of the story characters don't have any lines or commentary for you. Kind of eerie...

Summary: This game reminded me when I first played Oblivion or BG3. There was a wide sense of scale in the world you were living in and made me excited to explore it. Warhorse really did succeed n making a Medieval life simulator with many of the story beats hitting its stride. I'm hoping the DLC and updates add more things to play with and story content.

I imagine this will be a trilogy and for a 3rd game include the beginning events of the Hussite wars. Thoroughly recommend.

You know what's funny I bought this game.
Didn't enjoy the game enough so I refunded it.
Come back almost 2 years later to see paid mods.
Don't regret a damn thing.

Played survival mode on the hardest difficulty. At one point we came under attack from some mutants. I completely forgot about my air supply while fighting. So I got a checkpoint just before we would get to a safe area or the end of the level. However I had only 10 seconds of air left every time it started and we would have to survive a horde attack before we could get in. Each time I tried, was me fighting against the clock. After 20 times I managed to do it. This game is intense making you feel like you're in a cramp bunker. Trying to survive among the abominations of evolution from the surface constantly monitoring air, amno and health. This dosn't even go to the little details like the conversations between the inhabitants of the metro. The side areas or note collectibles for each level.

I like this game even though it felt a little short for me. If you are looking to buy this game I highly recommend buying the redux bundle on sale. It includes both games and all of the DLC all in remastered beauty. I hope a third game does come out because this game truly left a mark on my mind.
