This game only makes me more excited for Grim Dawn's upcoming expansion.

The issue with this game is that outside of character/class building, I range from being unenthused or downright annoyed at everything this game has to offer. The endgame is particularly not fun at all, and the game is just a slog that forces you to play through so you can get there and actually start playing the game for real (and subsequently realise that I don't even want to).

I don't recommend it. I have over 100hrs from about a year ago in Early Access, and the endgame sucked back then too (I just made a bunch of different characters cuz building them was at least fun). They didn't fix it even now, and instead recently put out a statement that they're looking into it. Which is what they said when EA players were telling them it sucked. So, I'm not sure when they intend to look into it, but I'm done waiting.

I know people are positively reviewing this game because Diablo 4 was bad, but being better than a pile of crap doesn't make this game good either.

Wait for Grim Dawn's new expansion, at least GD doesn't waste your time with boring grindy endgame that you're also gonna have to re-do every season. That, or maybe Path of Exile 2 will be good.

In fact, I'm very confident that this game is poised to fade into obscurity as soon as PoE 2 releases and blows it out of the water in every way (which won't be hard). By Summer, this game will be forgotten.

Game is awesome, it expanded/iterated on just about everything that made Remnant: From the Ashes good, and winds up making Remnant 2 great by doing so.

Removal of Set Bonuses gives you more flexibility in your armour, you now pick the weight/resistances/look that you want instead of being pigeonholed into having to wear a set for its bonus. This was effectively your class in Remnant: FTA.

Adding Archetypes to the game to now be the true "class system" was a solid move, and the fact that you can pick 2 of them to create a multiclass has always been something I love in RPGs (Grim Dawn does this and it is cool as hell)

Guns still have mods, but now they also have a mutator slot. The mutators are nifty passives that give even more opportunity for build diversity. For example, I run a mutator that makes my next shot do more damage after a reload in a bow or in the bolt action sniper rifle. Those weapons only have 1 bullet in the "magazine" meaning they reload after every shot. So, the mutator makes me passively do more dmg. Pretty cool stuff.

They added more relics. You can now effectively choose what your Dragon Heart does. Instead of only being an "oh crap" health flask, there are options that buff passive regen, one that gives you 100% of your HP as a shield, and more. PLUS the relics also have 3 slots where you can slot in some extra little perks to give you a bonus on use. Some are defensive, some are utility things, and some are even damage boosters. Pair that with the fact that there are plenty of things in the game that do "X effect when using your relic" you can see that there's possibility for cool synergies which make your relic much more interesting than just "oh no I'm dying, quick heal me!"

They added 2 more ring slots. Which means that you now have 4 total rings plus 1 amulet that you can equip and do even more cool synergies.

That's all the good stuff. Now for the gripes (most are pretty minor)

Performance is rough, this game is a resource hog. At Launch, people have been reporting needing to use DLSS/FSR/XeSS even on high-performance and brand-new cards (I'm talking RTX 4090s and 7900XTXs). In fact, my buddy has a 7900 XTX and he's getting way less than he's expecting out of the game. I'm also not even talking about 4k resolution, I mean 1080p and 1440p. The devs have said that the game was "designed with upscaling in mind" which if that means that they built this to need upscaling, I think that's a really bad idea. Hopefully they fix performance as time goes on, though.

No loadouts. With all the options for builds that I've listed above, not having a "One-Click build swap" option is actually really annoying.

Traits are capped. We are not able to just max out all the traits like we used to be in Remnant: FTA. You get 60 points you can assign, plus your Archetypes will give you some for free. Now, on paper this change sounded fine when the devs initially explained it. However, in practice it sucks and there's a few reasons why:
- There are really horrible traits that you will never want to grab for almost any build, not being able to max all the traits means that those will never get used (things like extra speed vaulting or using ladders) since you will focus your limited points budget into build-centric traits;
-Switching Archetypes means that some traits will become dud traits, but unless you buy a respec, you're stuck with them. A trait that transfers your damage taken to your summons is great for a summoner, but for a hunter with no summons, it's a dead trait. When I swap archetypes, I'm stuck with those 10 points unless I spend 2500 scrap to do a full respec of my traits;
-Finally, Archetypes will give you a couple bonus points in a random trait. This means that if you had 10 ranks (the max) in a trait, then you swap and that Archetype gives you 2 free points, you'll get refunded. That's not so bad right? Well, it's an issue when you swap back to that original build, and the 2 points that got refunded are now assigned somewhere else and you can't re-allocate them to make your trait rank 10 again (unless you buy a full respec)

Those are the only real gripes I have and the solution is simple to the latter two: Add a Loadouts option, and let us max-out traits like we could in the previous game. So, hopefully the devs are receptive and they do that. Other than that this is legit an 8/10 game for me on launch. I have had an incredible amount of fun so far and am looking forward to uncovering every nook, cranny and puzzle solution it has to offer. The price is also more than right considering I paid the same amount of money for the Ultimate Edition as it would have cost me for a Standard Edition of a AAA title (like a certain one which may or may not be having a terrible first Season right now :P).

Changing my review which I wrote pretty much at launch because Capcom are not to be trusted.

It's a shame because this was a great title. I even enjoyed Monster Hunter Rise more than I did World for the fact that it sped things up, respected my time, and also had some really nice new weapon skills to really shake things up. This is probably the best the combat has ever been.

The now-negative review is simply due to Capcom's unfathomably stupid decision to add DRM 2 years after launch, effectively making the game worse for the people who bought it, and in the case of Steam Deck users, completely ruining the experience by making it unplayable. What an absolute slap in the face to their customers.

This decision has also instantly killed any modicum of interest I had in Monster Hunter Wilds. Not giving money to a publisher that can't be trusted.

I'm posting this as a precautionary review for anyone with a 300Hz + screen, or a 2000 or 3000 series RTX card (or the unlucky ones like me who have both.)

This game ran perfectly fine on my old PC 75Hz panel and a GTX980M. I did have the classic Bethesda not-so-great optimisation and bugs, but nothing out of the ordinary for a Bethesda game. Fast forward to 2021, I buy the Season Pass thinking of giving the DLC a whirl. NOPE, Black Screen with audio on launch. After much research, I finally find out it's an issue with the game not liking a 300Hz display (I have a 360Hz one now). So, I find the fix, which required modifying the ini file and also capping the framerate to 60 in the Nvidia control panel.

I'm good to go now right? Wrong! Crash to Desktop during the intro sequence. Great, let's find out why. Turns out you need to turn off Weapon Debris in the launcher's advanced settings. Apparently the game doesn't like Weapon Debris if you have an RTX card...

Seriously, Bethesda? What is this trash? The game is 5yrs old, not 10, not 15, not 20. I can run stuff that was originally on Floppy Disk that can properly detect my GPU and run. Anyway, get it at your own peril, if you don't mind troubleshooting a game. Just be aware that if you have current-gen PC hardware, it's likely not going to let you just play it without tweaking and/or installing mods to fix Bethesda's glaring incompetence.

I was a Pathfinder tabletop player and so when they announced this game I was super excited. I have to give the developers some serious props for porting over a tabletop ruleset to a PC game so effectively.

I'm basically playing my tabletop Pathfinder Paladin in this game right now and all of the feats that made his build are both available, and work properly in this version. That's what was most important to me especially after being let down by Sword Coast Legends and the lack of any effort put in to adopt any real semblance of the 5.0 system.

I think the Devs are clearly huge fans of Pathfinder and D&D. It truly shows this is a labour of love, and I'm happy that their first game is so well put-together. Here's to hoping the next one happens and we get to play with friends the next time around.
