At its heart, Wild Bastards is an arcade shooter like Quake. It takes place in location-based arenas (like Final Fantasy) on a board game map (like Super Mario World). 3D enemies move like classic sprites. "Space western" art and character design is deep enough to keep things interesting without weighing down momentum.

The tactics and mechanics are just enough to satisfy serious FPS fans without bogging down casual play. Overall, this is a well-executed product. It shows an experienced development team with a clear vision who knew how to steer clear of "feature creep," They did not allow any single part of the game to become the "experience main character" at the expense of others. It's impressive for its coherence.

I have two PC monitors:

1) A 4k primary monitor that runs at 60hz
2) A 1080p second monitor that runs at 144hz

Obviously, I only play FPS games on the second monitor. Marvel Rivals will only run at 60hz on my second monitor. There's no way to select resolution and refresh-rate. This is a game-breaking bug. It's a daycare-level oversight. They don't care about PC gamers. This is a toy. 90% of sales will be on toy platforms (dual analog consoles) at toy frame rates (60FPS).

There's nothing wrong with toys. Just don't expect any priority given to the most basic, undeniable, entry-level PC gaming feature options. Imagine expecting any enthusiast PC gamer to game at 60FPS! That would only happen in a world where PC GPUs were fabricated using the decades-behind chip tech of mainland China and not where Nvidia and AMD actually make the hardware that runs these games-- Taiwan.

Early Access Review
I'm glad the glory of Tribes is here for a new generation. This game keeps the best of Tribes 1, Tribes 2 and Tribes: Ascend . . . while improving jet controls and simplifying gameplay.

Every other FPS game feels flat after this.

At its best, Overwatch has enjoyable moments. Overwatch League attempted a grand eSports vision and brought together a rich community of personalities, professional players and fans. But these positive takeaways are marred by two main issues: problematic workplace/corporate culture and mentally unhealthy game design.

Google Kerri Moynihan, the Blizzard employee who killed herself due to sexual harassment by colleagues. Bobby Kotick, the CEO who threatened to kill his assistant in a voice-mail in 2006, got a $155 million "thank you" in 2021 for running a company that countless employees testified to being a toxic, misogynistic work environment.

Watch FLATS on Youtube to see how rampant cheating is in Overwatch. Blizzard's medal system is purposefully vague in articulating a player's actual ability level relative to the game's active player base. This denies the player an honest, proportionate self-reflection and gaslights them into grinding the product forever. In general, the game hides comparative metrics that would ground every participant in a neutral, empowering sense of truth. This is horrible for mental health.

There are great individuals who have poured tremendous talent into the Overwatch franchise as developers and players. Overwatch deserves stewardship that values employees, players, and the statistical transparency of professional sports in product design.

I like this better than Fallout 3, Fallout 4 and Skyrim -- each of which I played for 200+ hours. There is a launch bug or two that make it rough around the edges, but it's a wonderful open world to explore. I'm presently level seventeen, 38 hours in and have barely bothered with the main storyline. It's way better than Mass Effect 2/3 (and obviously Mass Effect Andromeda). The writing and voice acting is spectacular.

November 22 Update: This game used to be cool. Microsoft the monopoly broke it by forcing a buggy Xbox login screen cause they don't want you to own this with Steam. I can't even get into the game now, and I've spent more than $200 on the game and DLC. Steer clear.

Old review: Cool if you want to fly anywhere in the world. I keep the cheats on cause I'm not actually interested in learning to fly planes beyond just getting around . . . but there's still some learning curve. I prefer the Cessna jet because I can go low/slow with the flaps out or faster if I want. You can also time-cheat and increase the simulation speed if your computer can handle it.
