Supreme Commander multiplayer-lobby 2007:

A: "What kind of CPU do you own?"
B: "A Pentium 4 3.4 GHz"
A: "Buy a intel Q6600 Quadcore and come back if you have: out!"

Supreme Commander multiplayer-lobby 2015:

A: "Your CPU-rating is suspicious, what kind of CPU do you own?"
B: "A Q6600 Quadcore OCed to 3.2 GHz"
A: "Buy a Core iX Haswell CPU or equivalent and come back if you have: out!"

This is one of the very few games that even 8 years after its release manages to strain the most expensive hardware available. That is because Supreme Commander (FA) is a massively grand game. And a superb one at that. (And one that is not well optimized for todays multithreading).

You want to fight 11 other players on giant maps in the air, on sea and on land? Check. You want to crush the shield-generators of your opponents base with 500 Bombers just because you feel like it? No deal. Check. You want to have up to 12.000 Units duking it out in multiplayer? Sure, why not. Check.

One of the best alltime user-scores on metacritic proves that this one is a timeless classic. And even being a classic i often look at replays of my games and marvel at the level of detail that the designers have put into the game e.g. the little radar-antennas on my destroyers tracking the opponents, or the little Flak-cannons on deck training their barrels physically correct onto incoming airplanes. The game even today can be pure eyecandy.

The true joy though is in multiplayer, i will not go into further detail here...just buy it, its dirtcheap for what it offers, and try it out yourself. And oh, do not forget to install the community-driven multiplayer-lobby. You will find hundreds of players online there and games to chose from plus a plethora of mods and automatically distributed updates to the game:
