46 Hours played
Played the game again a while ago, after a few years of abstinence.
The tension it creates, is still something to be matched. The first two hours being chased to Black Mesa East combined with the music is still a blast. I don't deny that a certain nostalgia factor might come into play here. I've been and still am a fan since the first day of Half-Life 1 (been able to snatch a US version back then - here in Germany that is) but whatever it is that's upping the heart rate, it feels awesome. Running from the combine soldiers, jumping back in the water to escape the blast of the explosive barrels they drop in the canal.
Beating the crap out of those two a-holes with a crowbar that killed that woman's partner. Taking out combine dudes with headshots to save ammo. The beeping noise that alerts you when running low on ammo. Hearing the radio click and chatter around every corner. Or the water hazzard scene where you need to raise a ramp by dropping a washing machine from a ledge. First though you need to get up there and suddenly a head crabbed goon pops from the water, nearly giving you a heart attack - even though you gave the game 5, 6 or maybe even more playthroughs over the years of its existence.

Then Ravenholm is still a place that can give you the creeps. This was actually the first time I went through town with the gravity gun only to get that damn achievement. Quite a rush when you're on hard difficutly.

I also discovered places I've never been before. Even though, as mentioned, I have completed the game several times over. For instance, there's a narrow space you can crawl into that has a hidden creep in or behind a crate. Crawling in there rewards you with (probably) the first grenade available in the game. Crawling out surprises you with another combine soldier roping down on you. First time ever, after release in 2004! An mind you, I own it since day one.

Especially the lambda caches I missed in all my playthroughs before suprised me quite a bit. Some had a nice catch to them, like a creep popping up from the water and other stuff that gives you a ticker.

So, if you're still missing some achievements or are uncertain about having seen it all, give it another go.
And in case you're a FPS fan and thrive on the thrill of being hunted and giving your foes a hell of a ride - get it, play it.
