This game still has massive problems that the developers have yet to address.

Smurfs
Toxicity
Servers

Smurfs - the number one issue and probably the main reason for toxicity are the insane amount of smurfs in the game. For those experienced in this game you know all to well how the game becomes easier or more balanced once your in the diamond ranks. In every rank under diamond you will get smurfs, some times the problem is so bad you get one every match or about 7 to 8/10 will have one. Rocket League has allowed these people to continuously harass and torment lower ranked players and has done nothing as of yet to punish these players and their accounts.

Toxicity - While Rocket League has made attempts to deal with this problem, they have only slapped band aid after band aid on it. I believe that people should have freedom of speech with in their game for better or worse, but just banning people over a naughty word isn't the solution. There have been plenty of other games that have better dealt with this problem and maintain each persons freedoms, some of the features I'm going to be referring to are already some what in the game but are not utilized properly. The game needs to by default have a word filter in place that is automatically on, this word filter simply blocks messages with "naughty words" from ever being seen by those who also have the filter on. For those that opt in to see everything then they should see anything no matter how harsh those words are. It should be noted that with this system there will be no player bans for chat as you can only see what you opted in for except in rare cases where speech violates actual laws. This system puts responsibility into the hands of each player instead of systematically stripping them of their choice. People forget that getting into your opponents head and talking smack is a fun part of the game for some people. The game filters are for those whom are either to young or can't handle back talk.

Servers - There is not a lot of advice I can give here, either this game at some point down graded it's net code or the servers are just that bad. As some have said, when your not busy dealing with smurfs your fighting the servers. Even when in region this game will give you bad packet or data loss. Part of this games net problem revolves on how it resolves ball handling on players with bad pings in the 300+ range, this could be do to favor the shooter type of mechanics or something else entirely, no one with packet loss and unstable ping should even be able to tell what the heck is going on, this might be some sort of cheat but who knows. Mainly when you roll up on players with these bad pings you will notice that when you attempt to hit the ball the sever will correct it and say no you didn't as the ball is not where you see it but is instead trapped in a dimension with the player with the packet loss and bad ping giving them an unseen advantage.

In short, can this game be fun, sure. But if you do dare buy this, don't play it alone, because that will only bring misery.

How should I put this, pay to win, and basically zero strategy game, the further you get into this game the less strategic play there is and the more "powerful" reign. Typically to most card like games the clear advantage exist to those that either spend money or an absurd amount of time playing it.

It should also be noted that they use a lot of BS color coding and random mechanics to make you think you are getting something worth wild, the power token system that "grants" you a card bonus quality might as well read you can only get this one quality while excluding you from the better ones. If this mechanic was ment to help you then it should allow the card pack to give you a minimum quality card but still allow the highest quality to appear with in the roll, if that is not the case then those higher level cards are not showing up near enough.

How should I put this other then artifical difficulty the game. While it has some good game play and platforming, it ruins all that with this artifical difficulty by taking away the core spirit bind save feature when it wants to make things harder, even worse "it's" version of difficulty is throwing you into a chase scene where they give no clear direction of where to go and then change machanics on you in the middle of these with no warning. all so they can make a few select battles a memory game of fail repeat over and over until you know exactly where to go, this feels super bad as it is not your skill at platforming, but rather them just killing you and making you start over. While I may have not gone threw these memory game difficulty spikes as much as other trying to beat the game its clear this is bad design or a cheap way to fluf the game time.

This game is a pretty amazing return back to the good old days of X-Com: UFO Defense. The game keeps in line with the shadow government look and feel, while giving you plenty of creepy looking aliens to deal with. You get a tiny bit of story in the beginning, It would have been nice to see more story driven missions. The new system for commanding your soilders around and the type of abilitiy/actions they can take is pretty solid.

However if your like me and played the original game, (not the version on Steam) you will notice that the maps are not procedurally generated, no large inventory system for mission, and large 24 man teams. One thing I miss about the old game was being able to mind control a civilian and then throw my gun or have them pick up and alien weapon and fight for me, that and playing hot patato with grenades to get it to target destination. I would love to see a inventory system for missions even if it only let you bring a few extra things like medical kits, different weapons, and extra grenades. If this game had at least procedurally generated maps it would be an unstopable force in the Turn-Based Strategy land of games.

Finally, even with those negative things I just said XCOM: Enemy Unknown is still a fantastic game and I highly recommend it.
