Hunt used to be something -- unique, interesting, and wholly its own animal --, but has turned into another run-n-jump shooter with an ever-decreasing sense of identity or purpose. Technical foibles notwithstanding and even ignoring the obviously predatory new UI system full of menus, FOMO-style purchasing highlights, and horrendous user experience, Hunt has just become another cash-grab live-service nothing-game... and it's all too bad.

I've owned Hunt since its original launch in early access and I've seen it through every iteration, every addition, and every weirdo idea. With the drop of 1896 and the clear lack of interest the devs have shown towards addressing issues, keeping the game's DNA in tact, or doing anything beyond making a quick buck, it's unfortunately time to hang up my hat. At nearly 1.5k hours in what was once a game I touted for all that it was, I simply can't recommend what it has become for all that it is no longer.

This is a tricky recommend -- I wish there was a "Yes IF" option.

I would NOT recommend XCOM 2 without some heavy mod support. The base game is simply too opaque and unwieldy to offer a satisfactory experience. Enemy units that your characters are deeply familiar with utilizing abilities you [as the player] aren't aware exist, ruining potential plans, various base management options having far reaching implications or none at all [but you really don't know until they're built], squad building is a nightmare of menus, buttons, and choices that takes so long you'll just go with whatever the game gives you towards the end. There's so much to dislike about vanilla XCOM... but with some usability mods it can really shine.

Take the time, look through the workshop and download anything that improves UI, squad building, or speeds up animations and such. There's a great game hidden in here, you just have to work to find it.

With some voice acting this would have been a perfect experience, and that's just a personal preference. Even as is, it's the most perfect experience for its price-range.

Upsetting, intense, and profound; "Detention" is not to be missed.

Lazy, uninspired, and written by 6-year-olds who have never seen another human being, "Resident Evil VIII" is not underwhelming as much as it is impressively stupid.

It's... digital Scythe. If you like Scythe, you'll like this. The only problem with it is the unforgiving online play even outside of ranked mode. If they made a way to undo moves online, this would be a near perfect product. As with any digital version of a board game, sometimes things just aren't as convivial as they are IRL and mistakes happen. It'd be nice if they weren't so severely punished.

It would also be nice to have the option of setting up custom game modes, but as a digital version of the board game, this suffices.

Early Access Review
PlanetSide (one word capital S, ok good start) Arena is perhaps the best bonding experience I've ever had. Never have I ever become so close with several people I'll never meet over throwaway names and incomprehensibly bad game play. We did win, which makes this review a touch more positive, but we won because we were stuck inside the drop pod with no way out which made us invincible. so that is good. A+ would definitely recommend if your relationships with your friends are feeling strained because this is a truly unifyingly bad experience.
