My interpretation: This song is clearly about the changes that you go through as you go grow up. The clowns represent childish things like your imagination, creativity, childishness etc. The men in suits represent things you have to accept as an adult. Such as responsibility, work, seriousness etc. And as your growing up, these things conflict with each other, and eventually there is only one left. This video is also extremely sad, one of the saddest I've seen. The clown is personified and is losing his best and only friend cause the friend is growing up and leaving the clown. Hence the clown is singing the lyrics "Where did you go". That's the story of the music video, not the lyrics.
