Early Access Review
I believe in this game, and I'm also easily baited by anime women.

Despite my recommendation, I really enjoyed this DLC! The thing is-- There is effectively no content. This is an appetizer, if even that. It's fun, the story in it is in really good taste, but like...

If you have it already, good, play this, it won't take long and it's fun! If you don't have it, well, "eh." If you can find it on 75% sale, I'd recommend it, I got a good amount of enjoyment out of it, even if it lasted for about thirty minutes. The negative review only reflects the ratio between price and enjoyment. I'd expect at least three times the content out of what I got to justify spending ten dollars on this.

it's crazy, but this is basically *just* a roblox rpg game. you know, the shonen anime ones? where you punch things and buy abilities to punch things more?

this is that but with higher budget and anime titties.

As of writing, there have been three DLC characters released. (DMS Kakashi, Neji Hyuga, and Shisui Uchiha.) While the first DLC released suffered from a slight lack of creativity (another lightning blade, another kamui,) the DLC that came thereafter are all fairly interesting. Neji adds a "get out of jail" option for defense types, as well as an incredibly useful charge attack in the form of Hazan Strike, and while we don't have access to Shisui's jutsu for our characters yet, from what we get while playing as him, they each seem to be very viable and effective moves.

While we still have two DLC yet to be revealed, I'd say this is shaping up to be a pretty good season. While I wish we got more for the base game itself, there's been a fair amount of balance patches, and cool rewards for the scrolls and ranked matches. I don't think my opinion will change on this DLC unless Soleil really drops the ball on the next two characters, but I don't believe that will happen. Ultimately, I don't know if I'd recommend this DLC over the other season passes, but I'd recommend it nonetheless.

Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot is good, like, really good. The pacing is very fitting of the "heist movie" theme it's trying to emulate, the story (thank god) is much better than the base game, and the characters are all fairly interesting. Unlike the main game, there was only one moment that really took me out of the story, otherwise, I was engrossed.

I feel like this DLC was directed to those who enjoyed Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, as it captures the cosmic theme of traversing a space station to a similar effect. In some spots even, I'd say it exceeds The Pre-Sequel, although the only real thing that stuck out to me was the beautifully rendered black hole, which, at times, gave a feeling of cosmic "weight." It was incredibly refreshing to see something so visually appealing, it stopped me from looting and shooting for a bit, and that's something I give accolades to.

Personally, I enjoyed this DLC, very fun weapons, an enjoyable and interesting story, a prevalence of Dameon Clarke (always a good thing) and the introductions and returns of very cool and comedic characters!

While I don't support the practices Gearbox seems to be taking, as a product, this DLC is top notch. It still isn't one of those DLCs that'll stand out immensely, and I have a feeling it won't be remembered as well as other DLC in the franchise. But, if you've had your runs through the main game (and/or you just need a breath of fresh air from BL3's lackluster story) try this one. Though, before you indulge yourself in the Handsome Jackpot, may I suggest (if you haven't already) playing these before deciding to invest in this DLC?:

- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (for that cosmic feel this DLC calls back to.)
- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Claptastic Voyage (for one of the best DLCs in Borderlands)
- Borderlands 2, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep (for the best DLC in Borderlands.)

I'm just here to say what everyone else has already said.

GREAT gameplay, really, really fun, bosses feel a lot more interesting than they did in previous entries. However,

The story, general consensus is right, it sucks. If you want a reason why it sucks, well, that's simply because in this story, you really aren't the main character. That's not something the writing should have allowed, but, you're just here to help everyone else's story and do the heavy lifting, its incredibly unsatisfying, gratingly so.

also Randy Pitchford is kind of a tool.

Not as grandiose as Borderlands 2, but damn if it ain't fun. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is what I'd call a fun dip into Borderlands. As it stands, content is lacking when compared to what came before it, one "raid boss," no extreme challenge, and only three DLCs (I'll be damned before I recognize the Shock Drop Slaughter Pit or Holodome.) However, I'd still say this game is pretty chock full of good stuff.

While subjective, I personally believe this game's cast to be some of the best when it comes to playing them. You've got Drones that buff and launch missiles, a shield that stores damage (only to return it), and you've got... Claptrap. The characters all feel really fun to play. Additionally, the introduction of "Oz Kits," which, while forcing you to manage a meter of oxygen (unless you're Claptrap, or you've got health regeneration) allows things such as air-boosts and buttslams. While you're unlikely to use the latter efficiently in combat, the former allows for a lot of fun with its added mobility.

Overall, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is fun, and while it doesn't have the colossal replayability that its older, cooler brother Borderlands 2 has, it's still really good. I'd recommend it for people who want to try out the Borderlands franchise, or just for those who'd like a change of pace from the other games.

So. I made this review when I had 80 hours of play time. I now have around 620, and my opinion on this game has become a little more nuanced.

Before I get into it, bottom line is if you like playing games that revolve around team tactics based combat, this is a good game for you. Wait till it's 80% off then buy yourself and a friend a copy. Do yourself a favor and checkout the online communities as well, there's plenty of discords you can pop into and ask people to team up with you. Of course, I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone who dislikes the Naruto Ninja Storm series, as while the combat isn't 1:1, Striker's system is reminiscent of it.

Now, into the meat of it.

Strikers is a game best played with friends, but the solo experience is still fun. To most, this'll be a horde/boss fighter with the quest system of "VR Missions," and there's plenty to unlock even without participating in the weekly/bi-weekly competitive events. However, this isn't really the meat of the game, and though enjoyable, you'll run dry on content soon enough. Though, if you manage to buy Strikers at an 80% discount I'd say you're still able to get your money's worth, and that's the discount I'll suggest for anyone wanting to play. Keep your eye out on the store page or on humble bundle.

Now, the multiplayer is where most content is found, as mentioned before, playing is all about learning how to fight certain builds and make use of builds. Doing this with friends is a lot more fun, but, again, there's a lot of communities for it.

Point is, this game is good, but it's better with friends.
