It's okay. It's a very slow RTS, I kind of like some aspects, but all up I don't think you I can recommend it. It feels the slow pace can just wear you out after a while.

Ahh!! Taken on board, I shall try it out. I've realised recently how much I rely on my spearmen. One of the quotes on the loading screen talks about being too familiar with one weapon is as bad as being not familiar with another, so I'm attempting to expand my range.

Hopefully we can get some vs. going soon so you can show me the ropes in real time. Recently I've been having trouble find people on the matchmade too. And I would enjoy getting a mutil- campaign going.

Anyhow, back to it, I may bug you with more questions later :)

Lastly, position your general close to the melee line so the loan swords don't rout. If you spread them out too far, they will rout just standing there. Use rally and inspire.

Another note to that, I'm low level playing with small funds. I know, quite sure, that this won't work for high level and large funds. So eventually the army will become more diverse, and get some monks to help out.

If they have archers on skirmish, you can run them down with your light calvs after all their melee units are engaged in the middle. (that would be a double envelopment, if it is possible to pull off) If they only have 1-2 archers, you could ignore them. Your melee line will push through after about a minute or so.

You make a good point about the yari calv. The main thing with them is that you can only allow them to charge you once. (in the game I lost, I let them charge me like 5 times, after that my general died) So I usually have a couple reserve units next to my general, when the calv charge in, use your reserves to engage them in melee, at a 90deg angle, so they can't pull back. In my experience, since you will have so many more man on your side, you can usually take a couple yari calv charges and still win comfortably. ALSO, I found that using yari ashig to counter their calvs is totally pointless, they simply run around you.

Hey Mike/Deorn, I got your comment. I'd totally love to play with you... if I figure out how to resolve the multiplayer problem.
Currently, nothing works except for matchmade. I tried to join a game someone has hosted, fail. I tried to invite somebody to a game I hosted, fail.

about the sword tactic, I actually had my first loss today against an experienced player who used yari calv skillfully. (it was a bad map too :P)

In general, with all loan swords, a couple katana sam and a couple light calv, you will be able to make a very wide melee line. As soon as they start shooting, charge their front line, which should be about half as wide. Do a little bit of double teamming in the middle, but leave a few units on the outside so they can run pass the middle crowd. Do a single envelopment, the middle is done.
