While not heavy on gameplay, the plot, voice, characters and visual design come together to create a lovely and at times bittersweet little story. Walk in the shoes of Rania for a night, you wont regret it.

Started as what looked like another ubisoft style sandbox game with robot dinosaurs. Expectations more or less on point for a while, but as the plot thickens, details that looked just like surface level stuff gain more and more depth and meaning until from the midway point onwards and into the end of the main plot it suddenly gets very moving. The expansion is also highly recommended, both for gameplay and its own story that ties into the main one very well.

Xcom style tactics with a twist, set in the 40k universe. The designer clearly understand the material they are working with, Audio is great, design is strong and consistent. While there is certainly similarities to xcom style combat and gameplay, there are more than enough unique twists to make this far more than just a copy-paste. If you are after a good tactical squad combat game set in the dark future, look no further.

Never thought i needed a rhythm game where i shot stuff until this came along. great core game loop. Getting fare into the game however does feel more dependent on randomly getting a good item and weapon drop combo, rather than my own skills. Also once a good combo is found, hesitant to try swapping out items or weapons in case i ruin it and die in the next fight, but hey thats just a quibble.
Overall defs worth the time and money.

Well polished Ubisoft sandbox, with some compelling side characters. The plot at times has some interesting bits, but I went for Joseph first and in retrospect feel like he was the strongest of the 3 story wise, so felt let down by Faith and Jacob. There are parts where the game wants to play with your head and while sometimes, particularly at the start, it caught me off guard and surprised me; later on when i was looking for the weird stuff, being forced to do so anyway took away a lot of immersion. When I see through the evil plot id like to have an option other than having to pull the trigger anyway or accept a mission failure.
The ending was definitely more dark than initially expected, but the foreshadowing is there, so in hindsight not bad.
Overall, a decent enough game, but having finished the story not one I want to go back to replay or 100% as the ending definitely changed the outlook.

Tentative recommendation.
While there are the odd beautiful moment of character interaction or story, they are the exception rather than the rule. Having just finished the game, it is a missed chance. There are many aspects which if tweaked, could have added up to a good if not great game. As it is, it is somewhat bittersweet. Particularly after this and EA's track record, I am unsure if the mass effect story will continue.
Is it a good time sink with ok story and moment to moment gameplay? sure. Is it a worthy successor to the mass effect franchise and story? For the whole thing no, for the end of 3? yeah probably

The rogue-lite elements are well done, though simultaneously feel like the weakest part of the game as a whole.
With the exception of the odd major perk or loadout unlock, many are incremental and don't feel impactful so progression feels minimal. The variety of weapons and upgrades suffers from the rogue-like elements in my opinion. New Weapons or upgrades that aren't part of a starting loadout or obvious in their application often feel like an unnecessary risk when I'm an hour or more into a run and don't want to hamper my chances.

Great game, scratched the single player space combat/sim itch I've had since loving Freelancer nicely. Would love for a more developed plot or ship options.
Moment to moment gameplay, controls, visuals and the story that exist are all well worth it. A game that is simultaneously a good rogue-like while being hampered by that very mechanic/design from fully blooming

Is this a main series xcom game? no. It lacks the depth in both mechanics and plot for that.
What it is is a nice little snack sized game with some interesting mechanics on individual characters and how they interact. I would recommend this for introducing someone to xcom style game mechanics.
