it's okay for what it is, the problem is there is a lot in the game that is distracting from the things it does well. the premise is simple, you're hired to delve into a cave searching for crystals in a big mechanised miner/tank/thing, you have to collect ten crystals, navigating the caves with the mole's slow, clunky movement, and keep track of the oil, coolant, and battery levels so you don't end up stranded

the movement of the mole, slowly making my way through the caves, felt great for what it's doing, i always had this underlying sense of dread due to my limited mobility. however the resource management didn't feel entirely polished, i felt like resources, namely oil, drained too quickly and because you're limited to one crystal at a time before returning to base to restock there is little room for decision making in terms of the resources you bring (at least one crystal at a time is what i did considering when i tried searching for a second one after getting the first i got a game over), your storage is limited to about 5 items being stored at a time (2 in each of the 2 containers, and you could hold 1 in a hand to keep another spare for the crystals) and so long as you dedicated enough for oil and filled the rest with coolant you probably wouldn't have any close calls or anything, it wasn't the slow drain on resources i was expecting the game to have, nor was there any instance where the resources were used for anything substantive, just a bar to be maintained

there are multiple characters that i feel the game could have done without, clarence and your daughter (who i don't think is even named at any point) have incredibly cliche story beats that you could probably guess the moment you are introduced to them if you are at all familiar with indie horror games, and their performances are not helped by the voice acting clearly being done with ai voices, as you spend more time with the characters the seams in the deliveries become more apparent and it did more to take me out of my immersion than anything, the ai voice acting felt like it was trying too hard to be human and so was held back by the shortcomings of the technology rather than being at all creepy or unsettling

there are various events which i felt subtracted from the game, not to say they didn't scare me, who wouldn't be scared turning around and seeing an eyeless little girl standing in front of you? but when you find out the imagery is largely meaningless outside of 'wouldn't it be scary to turn around and see an eyeless little girl?' it feels cheap, especially when the game goes for the indie horror game classic of surrounding you in scary character models

in fact pretty much everything with the story felt lackluster, stories about corporate greed and loss of loved ones have been done significantly better elsewhere, i felt the game was at its best when it was focusing on the eldritch lovecraftian horror with its core concept, towards the end you're left alone to explore this alien cave system and the game becomes a lot more engaging, i was worried about what new thing could pop out, with little direction other than the mysterious throbbing boulders blocking your way and/or opening up new parts of the caverns, you hallicunate stepping outside to a mysterious door, the mole's camera screen flashes with strange images in the corner of your eye as you're trying to make your way back to base, and a strange alien humanoid figure stands in the loading bay area watching you, all the other stuff with clarence and your daughter detracted from the game's much stronger core concept

the sound design was phenomenal, the low hum when the mole's interior becomes comprimised, hearing things through the walls of the mole, the rumbling of the cave sounding like screams echoing through the caverns, the atmosphere was great and did a lot to build the horror, and the interior of the mole changing over time did great to induce the feeling of safety within the mole being slowly eroded, i was sufficiently tense when the daughter and clarence were absent

the ending felt lackluster, again you probably could have guessed the twist before even starting the game, and i thought there was going to be significantly more to the final scare. i don't know if i just missed something in the intro text but i didn't learn about the things like apparently there being an eternal winter or anything at all about the dystopian setting, which felt strange to not have in the intro

it's games like this that make me wish you didn't have to give a recommendation or if there was something less binary than yes or no, all in all it was a fine enough horror game, i wouldn't go ranting and raving about it, it's short and sweet at a little over an hour for about five bucks, and what is good here is really good all things considered, i feel like all this game needed was a tighter focus, reaching deeper into the concept of an eldritch cave system rather than the horror game dad simulator stuff that has been plaguing indie horror games for around a decade at this point

I enjoyed my time in dread delusion, the visual style is interesting, how it plays similar to morrowind with dark souls' equipment system, and the writing was good and has some interesting ideas and felt like the different factions i encountered had reasonable motivations. my main gripe being i found the gameplay itself shallow, the combat never challenged me (i started playing before the hardcore mode was introduced, but probably wouldn't have started with that anyway) and the actual rpg mechanics with your skill levels and such felt like i had minimal influence on them

an interesting game to play, likely with more i would enjoy had i continued, but by the end of my play time i lacked the motivation to continue although i still enjoyed it

edit: this was originally a Yes recommendation, but changed it to a No after deliberation

I'm a huge fan of Ratchet and Clank, and seeing the screenshots and reviews alluding to this being a sort of spiritual successor of Ratchet and Clank I immediately picked it up. The intro definitely supports this comparison, there's 3D platforming, you play a gun wielding protagonist with a small companion tagging along. However I couldn't get further than 3 hours before giving up.

The gameplay is barebones, rather than ammo guns are limited by overheating which builds up as you shoot them and quickly dissipates, however of the guns you are given aren't the most varied, you are first given an assault rifle that is terrible, a sniper rifle that I practically mained, a rocket launcher that didn't deal enough damage how little you use it, and a minigun I got just before I gave up on the game. You unlock special weapons in the store which as far as I could tell was the only place to spend the limited amount of money you picked up, which was 4 guns that instead of overheating were limited by a resource you get from killing enemies, but your main guns (see the sniper rifle) are fine and so I found little reason to use them, nor little reason to unlock more than one because you could only have 1 of the 4 equipped at one time, and who the ♥♥♥♥ knows when you'll find another store to change if you don't like your current one.

And of the main guns you get, you only get four, they are given out during the story (no unlocking in a store or anything) and to select them, at least on controller, its either the d-pad or the should buttons, there is no radial menu or anything, however:
- The game focuses heavily on movement, you never want to stand still, so the d-pad is a no-go in combat
- The shoulder buttons it never felt intuitive which button led to which gun, like it's not a list from left to right of the guns in order you get them it feels almost random, and it doesn't loop, if you're at the gun at the right most side and want the one on the left most side, you're spamming the left shoulder button until you get there, which just feels wrong

The platforming is fun, I enjoyed stringing jumps and dashes together, there are wall running platforms however jumping off them always felt off, like I wasn't jumping off them properly, your character doesn't jump off with enough force to feel purposeful and it always feels like I can just barely make it to the next platform.

There are little minigames scattered throughout, like the hacking minigames which most are fine, however the snake one is terrible largely because you have no idea where you're going to start, while being on a time limit, and while having to worry about not trapping yourself or anything. There's at least one where your companion does like a three-lane runner thing which again, is fine. Theres vehicles, which the main one with the car is terrible, your movement isn't enough to feel faster than running, the boost is too short and you have no idea when it's up or not, and you'll be shot at with little you can do to avoid the damage other than jumping or just tanking it.

The artstyle is nice, the characters stand out, they have good detail in the models and textures, the environments are varied. The music is fun to listen to and has good energy.

The writing... the writing is what made me stop. Your protagonists are named Exe and Shipset, which are inoffensive enough, but then you continue playing the game. The writing has a real problem with proper nouns being thrown at the player, you are tasked with helping the Ambassador, who is the leader of the Algorithm, to obtain the Artifact, this is like a first draft with notes like [COME UP WITH PROPER NAME] written beside them.

Shipset, your companion throughout the entire game starts off as a little annoying, but as time goes on it just gets worse and worse. He constantly lampshades the game like 'why can't villains live on beaches instead of volcanoes' and other 'hehe aren't we so smart breaking the fourth wall having a character complain about video game tropes' as if that fixes them sending you on a fetch quest while shipset cries "are they sending us on a fetch quest??" What made me stop was when you come across a character called the Processor (said like professor) who sends you on sidequests while shipset cries about it constantly and decides he's suddenly going to be a ♥♥♥♥ the whole time, as if a character being annoying is funny and not just annoying.

Playing this game just made me appreciate how well the Ratchet and Clank games were made

game itself is great, only issue is it's more likely than not going to crash before you reach the main menu, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ unacceptable

Early Access Review
Really enjoyed playing with friends, only real problems were: some general jank, and needs more servers (only has US and EU, no OCE or Asia) You can still find public games, people just need to make them and there aren't a lot of people playing, so playing with friends is recommended. The balancing feels really good, it never felt like one side has an overwhelming advantage or disadvantage, if you play your cards right you can win easily on either side. If/when the game gets more people playing, it would be an easy recommend, but right now you really needs friends in order to play because almost no one is playing, I only saw 2 public games and they were nearly empty. Overall a really good game that has a lot of potential, would love to see this game do well.
