The original has its flaws as well. They are both good games.

So, I grew an empire and conquered the entirety of another civilization. However, my army units haven't truly conquered the planet and just chills there. I'm a human faction that wants nothing to do with aliens and should really be exterminating them. Why is it so complicated to just conquer a system? Then after I've run through their entire system, magically, an entirely new enemy spawns and automatically controls part of the civilization I've juts conquered. I had just conquered with a superior force and they literally put up no resistance. Also, I'm forced to play an ironman because achievements don't work otherwise but the game can just cheat and automatically destroy my entire fleet? In Total War, yes a rebel force may spawn and could technically be in superior number. This new magical fleet was superior in technology than anything I had seen yet and absolutely decimated my force. Because I'm forced to be an ironman, this run is over. Hours and hours wasted so the game can just go, "lol no." I also feel like it's complicated just to be complicated. I don't have enough time to waste to try and be good at a game as bad as this. You shouldn't need a 10 hour tutorial video about every stupid nuisance it decides to throw at you. The built in tutorial is extremely detailed in everything that doesn't matter and is silent during the entire war. I have no idea why anyone would like this game.
