A game needs to be fun and engaging. It doesn’t have to torment you or force you to be hardcore and constantly push beyond your limits to achieve something.

- This is that kind of game, a relaxing one. It engages you without stressing you out or pushing you into competition. I’m a 30+ gamer, and after work, late at night, this is exactly the type of game that helps me relax and shut my brain off. It’s enjoyable and has that nostalgic spirit of childhood, like when you played “doctor” as a kid. If you remember that feeling (checking things up), it has a very similar vibe.

If you’re into this type of game and sometimes just need to quiet your thoughts, it’s absolutely worth it. The price is great, and the developers clearly care about their product! Major bugs were fixed very quickly.

Extreme jank and some really odd graphics. It has that old-school sci-fi game look, but at the same time it still feels futuristic in a strange way. There are tons of mechanics thrown at you all at once. Honestly, I’m kind of amazed by how many systems and details there are and how much you can actually do.

Give or take, it really grows on you, and fast. The first few minutes you’re like “ew, what the hell is this?”, and then half an hour later it’s more like “damn, this is actually pretty fun.” And considering this is a solo-developed game… yeah. The dev put a lot of bigger studios to shame.

Recommended, but with caution

Where Winds Meet surprised me in the best way. The game looks and plays like a full triple A title and it is honestly hard to believe it is basically free to play. The world is stunning, the combat feels great, the character creator is outstanding and there is a huge amount of exploration and side content.

Let me point out the big things though.

First, it is not pay to win. The shop is cosmetics only. The problem is the gacha. The rates are terrible and it feels like a very old school mobile system. Some costumes have fixed prices, which is fine, but the random pulls are rough.

Second, the game throws a ton of menus, systems and features at you at the beginning. It feels overwhelming to the point of confusion. The good part is that once you get used to it, everything becomes easy to navigate. The onboarding could be much better, but you do get over that hurdle.

Now for the biggest issue I have. The leveling gatekeeping is awful. At the time of writing, I have to wait six more days to go from 55 to 60. I do not understand the logic behind this. You keep earning XP anyway, so when the gate is lifted you blast through the next levels in about twenty minutes. It makes the gate pointless. During this forced downtime I fully cleared almost the entire first zone. 98 % of all quests, exploration and objectives done. That is when it hit me. At this pace I will probably clear most of the game before I even reach max level.

After that, all that is left is a short list of activities. Five bosses per zone - Qinghe and Kaifeng, one trial, a pseudo battleground and one arena. PVP is terrible. It is a stunlock fiesta. It could have been fun, but right now it is just frustrating, although I still play it for the rewards.

I already maxed out my mastery at this level, reached almost thirteen thousand power, started collecting books for inner ways and I can already see the long term loop forming. If you remove the mini games, the game becomes three repeating activities. Farm the same bosses, farm the same arena, farm the same outpost. That is basically it.

After checking the CN version I am honestly not sure how long the game will stay alive in the West. It feels like the time gating was brought over for retention, not for any creative reason. I expected proper dungeons and raids, not just straight boss fights. The game needs engaging endgame content, not repetitive farming.

Overall I am still satisfied and I enjoy my time with it. The world and the presentation are that good. But unless the endgame improves, I worry the game will fade as fast as it appeared.

This game offers an astounding amount of content—I can’t recall playing anything recently that comes close in terms of quests, side missions, and overall activities.

The story is engaging, consistent, and well-developed, delivering a strong sense of drama and progression. While character creation lacks depth, the skill system more than makes up for it. The sheer variety of abilities allows for highly creative—and sometimes completely overpowered—class builds. Want to create a two-handed weapon-wielding Psyker engulfed in flames, enhancing both damage and protection to absurd levels? You absolutely can.

The only aspect I didn’t enjoy was the inclusion of the Space Wolves chapter. While I acknowledge their popularity, I would have preferred the option to recruit a Salamander Space Marine instead. That said, the companions are well-written, staying true to their respective dogmas, which adds depth to interactions—whether you agree with them or not.

Overall, this game is well worth its price, and I sincerely hope to see a sequel or at least additional DLC in the future.

A True Masterpiece!

If you played the first game, you’ll immediately recognize how this sequel refines and expands upon everything that made it great. It takes the best elements, polishes the weaker aspects, and introduces a wealth of new content—truly an improvement in every regard.

Unlike many RPGs, this game doesn’t rely on magic or exaggerated heroics. Instead, it delivers a grounded, deeply immersive experience centered around the life of a simple peasant with noble lineage. Every quest, from minor side stories to the main narrative, develops organically, creating a richly woven and fulfilling experience.

This is not a game that holds your hand or rushes you through its world. It’s an experience to be savored, much like a fine wine—slowly, with full appreciation.

While combat has been streamlined, it remains engaging and, in many ways, more enjoyable, allowing for a smoother and more immersive experience. Every other aspect—stealth, survival, world interaction—has been significantly refined. From pets and armor systems to crafting, gathering, NPC behavior, and environmental interactions, everything feels more polished and thoughtfully developed.

Optimization is also a standout feature—this is a game that arrives fully functional and ready to play from day one. In an era where unfinished releases are all too common, that alone is a remarkable achievement.

Warhorse Studios has delivered one of the most realistic and captivating RPGs ever created. They’ve proven that quality and dedication to craftsmanship can still define a game, and they deserve every bit of recognition—and support—for it.

Bravo!
