this game is well and truly a masterpiece, highly recommend to anyone who is into metroidvanias 10/10. Though be warned that some bosses and some platforming sections are BRUTAL and UNFAIR, they are possible but just really really hard.

4/10 game

I do not know why people are giving this game a pass on being good. The open world has done nothing to improve the overall quality of the game. The best thing I can say about it is that, it lets you go anywhere you want without holding your hand... But so has most every other souls like that has come out recently. The minimap they give you is worthless and is just a black orb that shows items you can pick up, why not just have it be like an actual minimap? The one positive I can say about the map is that it logs everything after you run through an area, so it eliminates you having to search for most stuff most everything will be logged for you so you don't have to put markers down to remember where things are.

As for the enemies If you played nioh 1, or nioh 2, then you have fought every single enemy in this game, there is exactly 1 new enemy that they have added in the second area of the game and it is criminally easy. You will be fighting the same thing at level 1 that you will at level 200. It makes every single area in this game uninteresting and repetitive because it does not try to change up the formula at all and craft enemies for specific areas.

The story is also meaningless as it is the SAME story from nioh 1 AND nioh 2. nioh 1 the story starts off with you getting betrayed by some guy you never met, nioh 2 you actually play with the guy who betrays you for 1 level, then in nioh 3 you get to do 1 training sequence with the guy, then he betrays you. It is tired and unoriginal. Then they start doing time hopping and the story just feels aimless and confusing after that. None of the characters really matter in it because after 1 era most of them you will never see again, so why bother remembering them.

The best thing about this game and all the other nioh games is the combat. The way they have every weapon feel unique and interesting is masterful and the combos are so fun to do. The magic is also crazy strong in this game and the nina arts are awesome, that is the only reason to keep playing. But sadly you will find a weapon you like more than others and spells that are just objectively better than all the rest and it will get stale and boring because there is no new enemies to test your metal. So even the combat is sullied by the lack of variety.

TL:DR: No new enemies, uninteresting open world, meaningless character, repeat of the same story from nioh 1 and 2. Combat is fun though but you will get bored of it after 20hrs when you beat map 1 of 5.
