The thing is though, that Venusaur didn't learn Earthquake until Gen 3. If you think that sounds weird or even incorrect, nobody can blame you. After all in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Venusaur uses Earthquake when summoned from a Pokeball, and it and all other Pokémon in that game were all based on their Gen 2 incarnations. On top of that, Charizard and Blastoise are both capable of learning Earthquake since the first Gen, so it's not crazy to assume that it would be naturally rounded out with Venusa

So Venusaur, everybody's favourite flower frog in Gen 8 finally learned Earth Power, which is incredible for it given that its stats and typing compliment it beautifully. It's now one of its best moves and found frequently on its sets. Prior to Gen 8, Venusaur had to rely on Earthquake, which came off of its weaker yet still somewhat respectable Physical Attack. That and Power Whip in addition to boosting it all with Swords Dance was why Physical Venusaur was a legitimate set back in the day.
