(On keyboard enable then dissable double click EVERY game session) If in pvp trouble try a build around these stats. sl150 VGR48 END40 VIT15 ATN4 STR18 DEX12 ADP26 INT 20 FTH20. Rings: chloranty+2,life+3,third dragon, stone ring. Infuse weapons with dark or lightning.

Armor:
Enhance all armor to +10. Get around 55 poise
That way after you trade blows with someone you will recover faster and hit them before the next trade if their poise is lower, and if you used a heavy attack with a stronger poise break weapon -remember you also are using the stone ring.
Also at around 55 poise you will not be staggered by one handed light weapons like rapier and below.
Get around 700 strike/slash/thrust defense. Aim for a good balance between physical/elemental defense.
I go for alone knight leggings, smelter gloves, Agdayne's Black Robe, and bone crown, but there are other statistically better armors out there if you like the black witch dress-havel pants combination kind of outfits.

Weapons:
main hand1: The infused bandit's axe (has +100 elemental scaling above any other one handed weapon) is a beast regardless of stats

main hand2:The estoc is versatile enough against everything but poise tanks and guys who roll circles around you, but that's why you have the axe and the left hand broken thief sword moveset.

main hand3:The heide longsword. The best tracking on heavy attacks in the entire game. If someone wants to roll around you, they'll need all the russian lag and the luck in the world to pull it off.

offhand: The broken thief sword. Not much damage but has higher poise damage than the other knives that have the bandit's knife simple attack moveset. (tho the bandit knife has more damage due to very high criticals and the extra quick roll attack. Which won't stop people from trading a heavy attack with your fast roll attack, so don't try on people who stand their ground) The off hand is best used for slapping around people who roll circles around you when the enemy manages to somehow roll through your high stamina consumption heavy attacks with the main hand heide sword or the bandit axe.

Fighting:
Make use of both light and heavy attacks. Delaying your attack after a roll will allow you to aim it better with direction keys. Delaying your attack will also help catch people during rolls and mess up the timing for the opponent’s parry. It's situational but very useful.

Sometimes there's a weird "consistent" lag going on (often seen in russians but not only).
In those matches the opponent's actual attack happens before their “animation”. That means that if you are just outside their range when the attack animation starts and the actual attack hasn't already hit you, then you can walk in/step into their attack “animation” and hit them. The estoc strong attack, which steps forward, works very well. With practice you'll get the hang of each weapon's particularities and range.

If your opponent couples the russian lag with scripts, canceling all their recovery times, and other game glitches, then there are weird matches when even trading isn't possible (you can poise through your opponent's attack and hit them at the exact moment they hit you, only that they will still roll away without taking damage from the same instant when they are trading a hit with you, so good luck with that) .

Don't worry about those matches. Just have fun playing the game the way it was meant. It's a better game that way.

Check out this play-list just so you can know what's sometimes going on and play better against it. ANY build, ANY weapon, and ANY play-style is cool. But canceling recovery times and glitching into ultra fast attacks and such advanced glitch exploitations is only turning the game to something it wasn't meant to be and it's ruining a nice community.
