It's a great game.
The beggining (first 1 to 3 hours, depending on how fast you play it) are by far the worst part, when the tone isn't fully setted and you feel like you're riding into the apocalypse with kids on your side.

If you loved Dragon Age 2 and/or Inquisition, you'll probably like this game. FANTASTIC story with great moments and a compeling protagonist
If you didn't liked both DA sequels, but loved Origins, wouldn't advise to buy it full price.

DAV it's closer to DA2 in the sense that you are playing with a already made up character and your choices (up to 80% of the game) matter very little. With 50h of gameplay, I had made 'bout 2 meaningful decisions and then in the last 10h I've made like 10. So you don't get the feeling that this is YOUR story like in DAO, but rather Rook story (like in DA2 with Hawke) where you can only give nuance to the character, not mold him into who you'd like him to be.

Combat is very endearing. Played as a Spellblade mage, loved the fighting system, but I'd recommend playing AT LEAST in normal difficulty. I started in normal then changed to underdog, 'cause it was kinda boring just wiping the floor with enemies 10 to 15 lvls higher then me. Will make my second playthrough as a Warrior now in nightmare.

There are a lot of great things in the game (combat, characters, story, graphics, etc.), but there are also some really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ones.
Romance straight up sucks. The fact that you can't end a romance once you're commited and characters have such a weird dynamic where you have NO SAY AT ALL in the pace of the romance make it feel very unnatural and binding (in a bad way). Lot of the scenes and dialogue in some romances (can talk about Harding and Bellara) are pretty great, but some really miss the spot. And with so little interactions it just feel... shallow.
Interactions with companions vary from great to frustrating for the same reason: you can't choose when to interact, the game chooses for you, so it can be awesome, but it will always feel shallow.

For comparison, in DAO your last dialogue with your companions in Denerim before the final fight is AWESOME. In DAV you feel like... okay? It's fine I guess, some better others worse, none as epic as none of DAO.

Dialogue: the beggining sucks. Most 'cause it feels like Neve is a b***h that thinks so highly of herself and doesn't do s**t to live up the hype, while Bellara acts like a 5 year old. But very quickly both characters change their tone and it becomes WAAAAAAAAAAAY better then the first 1-3 hours, as I said before.
Voice Acting: great. The problem seems to be the voice acting DIRECTOR, as some dialogue feels completely disconnect, with some characters talking a really serious conversation and others in a party with friends. But most of the time is ok.

The main character: ACCEPT THAT HE IS A GOOD GUY, A HERO AND A "I'LL SUPPORT MY FRIENDS NO MATTER WHAT" KINDA OF GUY.
That's who Rook is. You can't change it no matter what dialogue you choose. Wanna be an a-hole that curses, bicker at your companions and kill innocent for power? You can't. Ever.

If you go in ACCEPTING that you're playing with a good guy, Rook is a great protagonist. You can give him/her/they enough nuance to be a cool character and he's not a stupid failure like Hawke in DA2 that only makes bad decisions and don't let the player use 1% of their brain when choosing.

Dialogue Wheel: sucks ass.
When you played enough, you understand how it works better, but there are a lot of "fun/sarccastic" that aren't joking at all, just another good guy option, as a lot of "serious/harsh" are more like stoic, but still full suportive and nice. Feel like DA2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥ dialogue wheel, and not like Inquisition WAAAAAAAY improved one. DAO system still better though.

Choices from previous game:
If you, like me, played hundreds of hours of DAO, DA2 and DAI and wanna see those hours reflected in the world you are playing, be ready to be REALLY disappointed. NOTHING you chose matters. NOTHING. You'll make 3 choices for your inquisitor and only 1 and a half of them MAY _kinda_ matter somewhere in the game. The rest is more than irrelevant, there are things straight up outrageous, like when wardens go talking about the 5th blight and no one give ONE COMMENT about HoF. And if you, like me, let your HoF survive, you'll be thinking the whole game "WHY THE F**K ISN'T MY HOF HERE? HE WOULD BE WAY MORE USEFULL THAN ANYONE IN THIS GAME AND HE HAVE *ALL* THE REASONS TO BE HERE" and it is straight up infuriating.

But if you accept that this is a game where nothing else before matters, or if you don't care much about DAO, this won't bother you at all. The game is disconnected in place with the previous ones so it doesn't hurt much.

Overall, it's a great action RPG, but you must be ready to:
- Important choices only close to the end
- Previous games don't matter
- You don't make Rook, he's a good guy and you'll be a good guy too
- The beggining kinda sucks
- Fun combat mechanic, but kinda easy if you don't go AT LEAST normal (underdog was pretty easy as a spellblade, if you're not fighting dragons 10 lvls stronger than you)
- GREAT story. Really cool plot twists from other games and a lot of cool moments.
- Cool companions, but mid interactions opportunities
- ♥♥♥♥♥♥ romance mechanic, but cool moments with your romantic partners (very few moments though)
- Nice pacing, clean gameplay, few to none bugs and great graphics.

Overall, for someone who loves DAO more than any game in history, I'd give Veilguard an 8/10. What it have going for it are one of the best things in the series, but there are some creative choices that I borderline hated and made me really frustrated in a few moments.

Not sure about replayability, I guess that at least twice is going to be really cool to play (lot of 2 options choices for a lot of things), but unlike my DAO in which I've compleated over 20 times with different characters and backgrounds, I don't think you'll have much more to see if you play this twice. Still over 100hours of game for ya if you do it, so 100% worth it.

PS: If you are NEW to the Dragon Age series and you are here for the PLOT, I trully recommend playing at least Inquisition before this. A lot of GREAT reveals will go flying straight up your head if you don't. At least see a full story review or smth.
And if you are really new to Dragon Age, altough is an old gameplay style, I can never recommend DAO enough, for IMO, it's the best game I have played in my entire life. If you hate the TRPG style, I understand, but you're missing the best thing ever made in the gaming industry

Don't play DA2 though, just watch a YT video before playing DAI or ignore it.

And always remember:
In War, Victory
In Peace, Vigilance
In Death, Sacrifice
