Scorn is clearly a passion project. The horror of Scorn is purely based on the grotesque. It delivers a truly unique experience. As you walk through this alien universe, you will find yourself frowning your eyebrow in disgust while trying to decipher the puzzling imagery, and the literal puzzles.

If you're looking to have fun gameplay, Scorn doesn't really explore that aspect more than any traditional singleplayer game, although it can be challenging. But if you are looking for a non-traditional horror game that will leave you in disgust, Scorn does that to a tee. A true masterpiece.

Difficulty is highly customizable and you can tailor it to your needs. The menus look like garbage and skills take time to understand.
That being said, the weekly horde makes things challenging, as you have to craft a base to survive the increasing numbers and strength of the zombies. There's a lot of interesting POI's to explore that fill the gameplay and make it worth enduring the other poor aspects.

After you've "beat" the vanilla game, I highly recommend you install a overhaul mod. The community loves the vanilla and builds upon it to make it a better experience. My personal absolute favourite is the Undead Legacy overhaul. It polishes the crappy menus, cleans up the gameplay, adds more, better progression that feels more exciting but not changing the core gamepaly.

Get it on sale, play it if you have patience.

It says 40 hours but I've played around 300 hours in 2021 alone, did full playthroughs without the DLC's and now that I am actually doing DLC's, I can say this game is an absolute masterpiece. Leveling mechanics may be hard to understand at first, but once you finish playing it the 1st time you'll likely crave to know what other builds feel like, what other endings there are, what are the outcomes of that one sidequest and how does it all affect the endgame. It's my favourite game ever for now, and I think it'll be hard surpassing it.
