The writing feels very pretentious. The visuals and music are very cool, but I found the story to be annoying.

I will preface this review with saying, please play the previous games first, most people I know love MGS5, and then get turned off of playing the previous games because it controls differently. Even if you disagree that this is the weakest entry, the other games are definitely worth a play (especially since they're all significantly shorter)

I have played MGS 1,2,3,4, and Peacewalker and was excited to see the final game in the series. I have never been more disappointed in a game.

1. Time: This game greatly suffers from being an open world game. The travel takes a very long time, and there's nothing to do along the way, except kill the same 4 station guards every time (if you don't, and they spot you, you lose fame). EVERYTHING in this game takes WAY longer than it needs to (travel, scanning enemies, etc). Even exploring the HOME BASE takes a few minutes to get from one section to another (not that there's much to do there anyway).

2. Level layout: In the other games, despite most of the game taking place in the same facility, the rooms are all very different, making you actually think about where to go. The movement is very precise, and there are many ways to handle encounters.

In MGS5, every "level" is a small facility with very similar level layout. They are either a set of 10 one or two room buildings (where 8 of them are empty, one of them has a little cash, and the last has your objective) or a small facility such as a courtyard prison with a wall with a few rooms in it. This leads the game to have a very repetitive loop of sneak up on one guard to find which building has your objective, sneak over to the building, and then leave.

3. Enemy AI: In previous games, the AI is smart, it is actively trying to kill you. If you do get spotted, you have to get out of sight and hide away until they lose track of you. This leads to the player having to think through their decisions and when they do get caught, find a place to fall back to regroup.

In MGS5, the enemies are incredibly stupid. They almost go out of their way to get killed (standing out in the open, or revealing themselves when they spot you). When they DO see you, you get about 10 seconds of slow mo to take them out before they alert the others. If you waste your slow mo, the game encourages you to run and gun your way out, but the enemies rarely miss, and if you try to sneak away, the AI can almost always see you behind cover.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every other Metal Gear game I've played, but I can't understand why everyone loves this game. It feels more like a generic shooter than a Metal Gear game, and if it wasn't labelled as Metal Gear, maybe I would like it more, but it doesn't live up to the name at all. Even the NES game was more enjoyable than this Happy Meal version of a Metal Gear game.

insanely deep and complicated civilization builder. the stories that are made while you play draw you into the game and grow your attachment to your fortress leading up until your fortress finally falls, either to something hilarious or in some epic final battle. losing is fun in this game because of it's high level of detail in storytelling.

the adventure mode update will only increase my addiction to the game. being able to explore the evolving worlds of dwarf fortress will be incredible.

definitely worth it. pick up the game and STRIKE THE EARTH

Super relaxing game with amazing music. I loved Katamari Damacy Reroll and this was even better. More gimick levels, more cousins, and more royal rainbows
