If there was a neutral option, I'd probably give that to Wrath, but there's not, so it's gotta get a negative rating from me. I've tried really hard to enjoy this, but good lord I just can't. This game has some good things going for it, but mostly bad.

The Good:

Art direction - The one thing this game absolutely excels in is the art direction. Many of the areas throughout are simply beautiful, with a lot of thought going into particularly environmental design. It all looks really good, and unlike many other retro shooters, the locations look like tangible places rather than a hallway with fancy textures.
Weapon design - All of the weapons have really interesting designs, I particularly like the look of the fang spitter. Not much to say on them, I just think they look cool.
Music - This seems to be hit or miss with people, I think it's fine, it's all ambient background tracks, so it's never in your face.

The Bad:

Enemies - Literally every enemy in this game is awful in some way. I don't care much for their designs, they're all just "evil thing that wants to kill you", with one even just being a knock-off of the cacodemon from Doom 64. I do mean literally every enemy has something that makes them annoying, let's run through some.
Shotgunners - Way too accurate, often hitting you with at least one pellet even if you're strafing
Mouth-cannon goobers - If they see you, they don't stop shooting. This is not hyperbole, they literally do not stop shooting until you break their line of sight, and to top it off when they die they explode. This is entirely unnecessary, because two other enemies leave an area of damage when they die, why do you need three of them doing that?
Cacodemon - flying enemies are always a nuisance in pretty much any game, but these ones are atrocious. Their projectile is negligible, but if they're close enough they'll charge and try to bite you, which does a whole lotta damage and is very difficult to stop unless you use the fang spitter on them as they charge.
There are other examples, but for brevity, I'll stop at those three.
Levels - The levels are way, way too long. The average amount of time you'll be in any given level is around 20 to 50 minutes, varying along the way. I know there's only 15 normal levels (18 including the bosses), but this is just too much. Because the levels are so long, you just forget things that happen in them, leaving most set pieces forgettable and/or insignificant. This also ties into the save system problem.
The save system - It's a novel idea, having limited saves and only getting them from items, but it quickly becomes an issue. Imagine a scenario where you have one save item (soul tethers, for future reference), and you use it. Then you make some progress, and you get ambushed by an executioner (since the game loves doing that) and because the level is so long, you just lost 10 minutes of progress, and have to do all of it again. Not fun in the slightest, this is actually one of the most rage-inducing aspects of the game, and the more I think about it the more my blood pressure skyrockets.
Enemy ambushing - I didn't think much about this at first, but I read some other negative reviews of the game and starting noticing it more and more. There will be times where you see a couple enemies and start fighting them, only for a wall behind you to burst open and an enemy (usually the executioners or widows) will rush out and blindside you. There's no indicator that this will happen, nor anything leading you to believe the wall is suspicious (this could've been fine if the walls were cracked, leading the player to break it open and getting the drop on the enemy instead), and that wall will not burst open until you start fighting the other enemies. They purposefully make it so you cannot react to it unless you have played the level before and have prior knowledge. Absolutely awful.
The mace - I was holding out hope that the super weapon would make the slog worthwhile, but it didn't. The silly goober mace (I can't remember the actual name and I don't care) does similar damage to a point-blank SSG blast, and collects a soul from each enemy killed, going up to 10. You can then right-click (or whatever your alt-fire bind is) and shoot some piddly energy balls. Keep in mind this is supposed to be this games equivalent to the BFG.
Bosses - There are three bosses in the game, and I fought two of them, neither of which were good. The first boss is absolutely terrible, she floats in the middle of the arena, and after you damage her enough, she'll float up to the next floor of the arena, and you have to walk through the silly levitation gate so you can also float up there. The second boss is just a gimmick, you do stupid easy platforming to flip a switch to hurt him, three switches later and there's a second phase where you just shoot him until he dies. Lame. I didn't get to the final boss, but I watched a video of it and it looks similarly goofy and annoying.

Conclusion:

Do not buy this game ever, it's not worth the boredom and tedium. My personal breaking point was at the end of the level "The Blood Pits" (one of the levels in episode 3). I could see the exit portal and had placed my last soul tether, and then some enemies spawned, so I kill them, exit the level, and go to the next. I get 10 minutes in, and not a single soul tether to be found, nor a shrine (one-use saves found within the levels). I get killed by one of the mouth-cannon goobers death explosion, and my only reload option was the soul tether in the previous level. No shrine, no autosave, nothing. So I quit. I will be uninstalling and I never plan to go back and replay this, because there are much better options. If you want a throwback retro shooter, play Turbo Overkill, Dusk, Amid Evil, Cultic, whatever, just not this.
