Apex legends is a great game. You might regret playing it later on since you might be spending some money on this game. If you want to have fun with your friends, this is a good game but remember, there are very sweaty people who play this game just to win and they can make your gaming experience a bit worse. But if you are a sweaty player, then there is no other game better than this.
This game not only focuses on aim, but also on other tactical things like movement, positioning and rotation. If you don't have good game sense, you won't be able to rank up in this game. Ofcourse, if you are playing for fun, there is no need to rank up. I have plenty of experience with apex cause I already had played it before on my PS4 but made the switch to pc.

Tip: Use controller if you want aim assist so you can easily shoot and kill people.
But use keyboard and mouse if you want good movement in the game.

If you learn to use good movement on controller(which is very hard), then controller is probably the best choice.

If you want to have a fun time playing this game, avoid the hotspots in the map where everybody drops.
For ex: On world's edge, the hotspot is Fragment.

Anyways hope you have fun playing this game and occasionally go sweaty so you can get the win with a lot of kills.
