I cannot believe I'm writing a negative review for this game. Supergiant dropped the ball insanely hard. The ending to this game is the most rushed, poorly written video game narrative I have ever had the misfortune of witnessing. It literally reads like a fanfic made by a 12 year old tumblr addict.
Prior to reaching the ending I would have given this game a 10/10 but the ending is genuinely so bad that I can't even recommend playing it. Everything good about the game is just setting the player up to be massively disappointed at the culmination of the story. There are dozens of plot hooks that are just randomly dropped and abandoned. Half of the main cast have their personality magically switch and become totally unrecognizable with half-baked story justification. The protagonist has an extremely unsatisfying end to her arc because she gets completely sidelined by the protagonist of the first game appearing and throwing the entire story out the window.
I've played since very early in early access and absolutely love the gameplay loop but the story being so atrocious has killed my desire to ever play the game again.
Also the moral messaging of the game basically tells you to magically forgive your abusers and accept them lovingly into your life just because it would be mean not to do so. I genuinely feel insulted as a survivor.

Very good game. Simple but fun gameplay loop, very addictive. You'll clear the game pretty quickly but you'll have fun doing it. I look forward to what else they bring us.
