You can view your connection details, including what local user is connected to your WordPress.com account, by following these steps:
- Visit your site’s dashboard.
- Visit Jetpack β Settings and click the Dashboard button on the right (or, visit Jetpack β My Jetpack if using WP Admin).
- Scroll to the Connections section.
- Site connection: Displays which user owns the Jetpack connection.
- Account connection: Displays the status of your account’s connection, including the email address associated with the connection.
If you are not the site connection owner, you will have the option to disconnect your user account from Jetpack. Or, if your user account is not connected to Jetpack, you’ll see a Connect button to connect your user account.
If you are an administrator of the site, you may see the following error message:
This site needs to be connected to WordPress.com by the plan owner account with email [email address]. Please create a local user account with this email address to resolve this issue.
This message means that the plan owner’s WP Admin (local) account has been deleted. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Visit Jetpack β Settings and click the Dashboard button on the right (or, visit Jetpack β My Jetpack if using WP Admin).
- Click the “Create Account” link in the error message at the top of the screen.

- On the Add User screen, the email address that matches the plan owner will be auto-populated. Add a username. If you don’t know the plan owner’s username, any username will work. The email address is the important part.
- Click the “Add User” button.
When you return to Jetpack β Settings and click the Dashboard button on the right (or, visit Jetpack β My Jetpack if using WP Admin) the error message will be gone, indicating the issue is resolved.
