Affiliate Product Tax malfunction

    Hi. I’ve got WooCommerce set so that it shows prices (21% VAT) tax included. When I add an Affiliate Product with its final price, it is shown in frontend with a 21% price reduction (vat is discounted) thus not showing real price to customers.

    Hi there,

    I’d like to understand your setup a bit more. Is this the gist?

    Product price = 100 Euros
    VAT = 21%
    Price should be shown as = 121 Euros

    However, the affiliate product is showing as only 100 Euros? Or is the affiliate product showing as 79 Euros?

    Does the correct price appear in the cart or checkout? Or is it incorrect throughout?

    Can you give us more details about your site’s setup and a link to the affiliate product that is not behaving as expected?

    In addition, could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status.

    Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.  Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

    Hello Nancy,

    It’s the second way.

    Product price = 100 Euros
    VAT = 21%
    Price should be shown as = 100 Euros (since I’ve got the option “Prices entered with tax” as “Yes, I will enter prices inclusive of tax)

    It works Ok with single or variation products, but the affiliate product is shown as 82 Euros if I set its price to 100€ -(100€ is supposed to be final price but WooCommerce keeps showing 82€ on the frontend)-.

    Since it’s an affiliate product, there’s no cart nor checkout.When you clikc on it, you’re redirected to the URL the product relates to.

    Hi there,
    €82 is €100 minus the included tax so it is displaying your affiliate products without tax.

    Can you please check the Tax class and Tax Status set on your affiliate products?

    I tried replicating this on my staging site and cannot do so which indicates that the issue is likely to be something to do with how yo have set up the product.

    Hello. Yes, I’ve double checked it. I’ve only one standard tax set on woocommerce (VAT 21%). I already set the external product to have this tax applied as I do with regular products, but woocommerce keeps discounting tax when showing price on the frontend (and that does not happen with regular products and same configuration). If I set an external product to be 200€ it keeps showing 165,29€ on customer’s side (If I do the same with a regular product it shows 200€ as it is intended to, and it shows 165’29€ + 34,71(21%tax) as intended too on checkout).

    Not that it is a very big problem since I can set external products price to be 21% higher so it shows the correct price to customers (and since it’s external product it won’t really affect tax calculation on my woocommerce), but it’s confusing not having real product price on the backend.

    Thanks for following up.

    This may be caused by either a conflict with your theme or with another plugin.
     
    The best way to determine this is to:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Repeat the action that is causing the problem

    If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

    If that does not help, can you send links to a regular product as well as an external product? As for the different products, can you also include details about how you’re differentiating them?

    After doing the conflict test I realized it was also happening with single products too. With only WooCommerce plugin active and Storefront theme I had both single and affiliate products showing prices with tax discounted on the frontend. I started switching the ‘prices entered with tax (tax incl./tax excl.)’ and ‘how I want them to be shown on store (tax incl./tax excl.)’ options and realized variation products did not change at all while the other products price display wasn’t working as expected when switching the options.

    I don’t really know where the problem was, but I decided to remove the two default additional tax classes which came with WooCommerce installation (Reduced Rate and Zero Rate) and that solved the problem. I don’t really know how they where affecting the displaying of prices on the frontend (because none of those taxes where applied to any product), but that solved the problem. So I’ll mark this problem solved for me.

    Hi there,
    Many thanks for sharing your investigations with us and great that you found the fix.
    Generally when you change the settings regarding pricing inc/excl tax the prices do not change on the site. It relates instead to whether the price you entered includes tax or not.
    I am also unsure about how disabling tax rates fixed the issue unless there was an issue with database entries for the rates that was reset when you deleted them and saved the settings.
