Hi, just a short question. Is there a way this plugin can replace images in bulk?

    Thanks,
    Matei

  • Hello Matei, this would be a great feature to have in EMR if possible to implement, and a challenge to do. Would like to see it in the future as well. Thanks for the observation.

    Hello Matei,

Can you please explain how would a bulk feature work? We’d like to understand your use case, to see if we can implement something like this.

    All the best,

    Hi Pedro,

    Yes, sure.

What I need to do is replace a number of 40 images with one same image, like an image placeholder. Considering that replacing an image with the plugin now takes more than 10 seconds for one replacement, would have taken me a lot of time to do them all.

I ended up doing it with SQL directly in the database. But it would be nice to have it as a tool too.

    Best,

    Matei

Hi @mmatei, ok I understand now. However, having such a bulk feature would result in having 40 items in your Media Library with exactly the same image, which is not necessarily the best way in my opinion. I consider the best choice in this case would be to replace just one image and point all the rest to it (from the products/content) and remove the other 39 from your Media Library.

I’ll go ahead and mark this ticket as resolved, feel free to start a new thread if needed.

Thanks @petredobrescu. Would you be so kind and tell me how this can be achieved?

replace just one image and point all the rest to it (from the products/content)

    Thank you

I just realized I haven’t answered your last question, sorry about that.

The way I see it is this:

    • You have 40 different images, and you want to replace each of them with the same (new) image
    • You replace one of them with the new image
    • The other 39 images are probably used somewhere on your website inside a post/page/product, etc. From the Media Library list you can see the post/page where each image was uploaded to, you just click on it and replace the (old) image from the content with the new one (that you used to replace the first image from the 40). In this way, it will point to the newly replaced image and you can probably remove the other one
    • You repeat the process for the 38 remaining items.

I am aware this may probably take more of your time, and a choice needs to be made: more images to take more space and clutter up on your website, or a quicker solution to replace all of them with the same image.

I hope this answer was useful!

@petredobrescu thanks for following up on this.

My issue was this: I had several images, different from each other, scattered on the whole website. Because of privacy concerns those images needed to quickly be removed. Because there were more than 40 (I gave this number as example) I had to replace them all quick in one go with the site logo and then remove them one by one afterwards. I wondered if there was a quick way to replace various images with only a chosen one through the plugin.

    hope this makes sense.

Ah, ok, then it makes total sense, I fully understand your use case now.

We’ll add this to our (rather long) development backlog and hopefully we’ll manage to have it implemented one day. Thanks for all the details!
