Hi there!
I’m sorry to hear that you’re having formatting issues.
The block editor is the default editor of WordPress, this is not something our theme controls.
If you need formatting for texts, will using the Classic block work for you? Here’s a link to its tutorial – https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/.
Also, text blocks like Paragraph and Heading has style options:
I hope this helps, and let us know if we can assist you further.

Here’s the problem: This tutorial (relevant part pasted below) says that if I click on the three dots at the top right I get access to text appearance choices. I don’t see it there and I can’t figure out how to get it or where to find it.
View all Settings
Adjust the appearance of the blockβs text with the following settings.
If you donβt see the setting, click the three dots to the right of Typography (as shown on the right.) You can then choose the option you want to access:
- Font size
- Font family
- Appearance
- Line height
- Decoration
- Letter case
- Letter spacing
Click each setting once, and a checkmark will appear next to it. You can then close the three dots menu to view the setting.
The settings available will depend on the block you are using. Not all settings will necessarily be available on all blocks.
Hi @shaunshaun,
Can you share the screen recording or screenshot of the issue you are facing?
Which block settings are not appearing for you? Could you please provide the names of those blocks?
Additionally, it is mentioned in the documentation, “The settings available will depend on the block you are using. Not all settings will necessarily be available on all blocks.”
Let us know if we can assist you further.
Best Regards,
Archita
Here’s 3 minutes of me clicking around and trying to figure out how to get the menu to appear. It did when I clicked on classic paragraph but that was the only way. What am I missing?

Hi there!
I apologize if we weren’t able to send a response.
If you’re looking for the block’s settings, you’ll need to click the icon for it. Please watch this screen recording – https://share.zight.com/z8uoE6QX

Thanks. Gutenberg seems way more cumbersome and annoying than the old version of WordPress typography, which was more like MS Word, etc, with simple drop-down menus at the top. I do realize that wasn’t your doing.
In any case I don’t see where font choice is.
(it also drives me nuts when I try to embed a video because it moves things around, but eventually I usually either get it working or just do the whole thing in html)
Hi, Shaun!
Gutenberg blocks don’t have the font family option. They will follow the theme’s typography.
For the Virtue theme, you can go to Theme Options > Typography settings.
If you want to assign a different font family for a specific paragraph, you may want to use the Kadence Blocks plugin’s Text (Adv) block. This will give you options to change font styles while you’re on the editor – https://www.kadencewp.com/help-center/docs/kadence-blocks/advanced-heading-block/
I hope this helps, and let us know if we can assist you further.

Karla
