• On a clean installation of WordPress with no plugins and only the free Sydney theme installed, the Header Builder function does not work. If you go into Customizing ▸ Header ▸ Header Builder, and change either the Background Color or choose a Background Image, neither appear in the preview or on a live site.

      HOWEVER

If you go into Customizing and click on the Edit Element for the Header and then go to Style (which defaults to Main Row) then the color and image work.

This issue has been verified to exist on all my other Sydney-themed websites.

  • Hi @das-capitolin,

Thank you for reaching out again and reporting this issue.

It looks like your site is currently using the default header preset(Layout 1) that does not support these options. In order to set a background image, you can select one of the other longer header presets listed below by going to Customize > Header > Header presets:

    • Layout 3
    • Layout 4
    • Layout 5

For Layout 1 and 2, you can use the granular controls for each row to set the background image and color as shown here.

I’m sorry for any confusion caused by these options. I have noted this down as an enhancement.

Please let me know if you have other questions!

Thank you for following-up on this issue, @kmacharia.

A user should not be able to assign a header background image by going to Customizing ▸ Header ▸ Style if it will not work from there.

    Hi @das-capitolin

Thank you for pointing this out. I completely agree that having an option in Customizer that doesn’t actually work is confusing. I’m sorry for the frustration this has caused.

I appreciate your effort for flagging this, your feedback helps us improve the experience for everyone. If you need any help or have further questions, just let me know!
