Is it possible to have a Woocommerce product that acts like subscription?

At the moment, I include the shortcode [pms-register subscription_plans=”3165″ plans_position=”” selected=””] to allow someone to sign up. However, the whole experience is not user friendly at all.

What I’d like to know whether it is possible, is to have a Woocommerce product as a subscription. It would display the details of the subscription, i.e. $9.95 per month (or whatever) and as the user clicks subscribe, it goes through the Woocommerce process which also includes creating an account (which is currently the first step when using the shortcode and is not user friendly).

The user would just complete the whole woocommerce checkout process and the end result would be like they would have followed the process presented by your shortcode.

I know there is an option to link a product to a subscription, but I went through the ordering process and it did not set up a subscription, just a one off payment, so, not sure what that does and the website seems to lack the documentation on this (or is hard to find).

    Thank you.

    Hello @metacofleurcom,

When attaching a subscription plan to a WooCommerce product, you are relinquishing the subscription/payment features from Paid Member Subscriptions and instead opt in to use the WooCommerce Checkout for payments.

Since WooCommerce does not offer recurring subscriptions in their free version, your payments can only be one-time in that situation.

In order to setup recurring subscriptions through WooCommerce you need their paid extension. We are not a replacement for that extension, we are a standalone product that integrates with WooCommerce in other ways.

In relation to WooCommerce, you can think about our product as a replacement for their Memberships extension.

You can read about all the features we offer (for free) in regards to WooCommerce on this page: https://www.cozmoslabs.com/docs/paid-member-subscriptions/integration-with-other-plugins/woocommerce/

Our plugin needs an user account to be created for all it’s purposes, we don’t offer something like a ‘Guest Checkout’. You’ll find that this is a requirement for their recurring subscriptions plugin as well, you can’t use WooCommerce with Guest Checkout enabled in that case either.

Also, if we compare the Shop -> Cart -> Checkout workflow vs a single registration page where you can select which plan you want and pay at the same time, I would say the registration page is better. But I do understand this is a matter of preference.

I hope this information helps! Have a wonderful week!

    Regards.
