In reply to: Moving wordpress to a new host / domainIs there not just a way to import posts from WP to WP, the way I would do from Blogger? That would be ideal in a situation like this.
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Just won’t install, I gave upPodz,
I had to sort out a number of password problems, and I think there’s an easier method that using the MD5 hash generator.
On this line:
user_pass varchar(64) [where the password appears at the end in MD5]
I simply selected a function – the fifth column in that line – of MD5 and typed the password in as normal English at the end. PHPmyadmin then converts it.
Worked everytime for me! :o)Forum: Fixing WordPress

In reply to: Changing post author?Well, I’ve changed the names now. I’m generally only really stupid once a day. :o)
Do you know how I would do it in phpmyadmin, given that I wouldn’t be transfering all of the posts from one author to another. Is there some way to look at post titles or content and quickly change the author?Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Separate page for each category – How?The post at the top could be a sticky post – or even simple HTML in the template.
The other issue has been dealt with quite a bit on these forums. But these links might help for now:

In reply to: Moving wordpress to a new host / domainThanks guys! Just two questions:
1) Would you recommend the method above, or using laughing lizard’s hack – http://weblogtoolscollection.com/archives/2004/02/14/wordpress-backuprestore-new-version-available/ ?
2) Podz, I’m not sure what you mean by a ‘find/replace’ function. Is that a command line I need to use? If so, where would I put it?
Thanks again.Forum: Everything else WordPress

I’m currently designing a couple of sites for people this way. One if a site for a Church with 8 pages, only one of which is a news page and anything like a blog. But for them, non-techie as they are, WP is a much better option than CMS or FTPing content each time.Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: Most WP sites are very plain.Planet,
My comment wasn’t necessarily aimed at you. I just think it might be helpful to have an “official” section somewhere with those styles from the AK comp that don’t break down, plus Kubrick (so cool!), Trident, Gemini and the current default (if we really have to).
These could even possibly be shipped with the install-package? I’m not sure that many would argue that the current default is a bit plain, but those less aware may not think to search through the forums looking for other templates.
OTOH, I think that B2evo goes to far and that their style switcher – and method for installing other skins – is simply going to be too intimidating for newbies.
As an after thought to the thread title, aren’t most blogs powered by anything plain?Forum: Requests and Feedback

In reply to: Most WP sites are very plain.I like the Blogger approach of providing a number of templates that new users can adopt.

In reply to: Acronym ReplacerIs there a way to change the code in the plugin so that it only works when you request it? So, instead of having to use dollar signs to turn it off, you use them to turn it on?
