Johnny Depp Reveals His Reaction to Being Replaced in 'Fantastic Beasts'

If you don’t remember, Johnny Depp was replaced as Gellert Grindelwald by Mads Mikkelsen in the Fantastic Beasts franchise back in 2020.

At the time, Johnny departed the film franchise after losing his libel case against The Sun. He’s now speaking out about it.

“It literally stopped in a millisecond…like, while I was doing the movie,” he told The Telegraph, and added that he had already filmed one scene for the third film before he was replaced. “They said we’d like you to resign. But what was really in my head was they wanted me to retire.”

Michael Cera Reveals Why He Passed on 'Harry Potter' Spinoff 'Fantastic Beasts'

Michael Cera is explaining why he turned down considering a role in the Harry Potter universe spinoff film Fantastic Beasts.

“I don’t even know if I was offered, I think I just declined to engage with it because I think it would be like probably six years commitment or something. But also, I did sort of make a conscientious choice to limit my exposure a little bit, or just try and be a little more in control of it,” Michael said on Louis Theroux‘s podcast. “And I felt like doing, especially little kids’ movies, I had a big fear of doing things that I would get too famous.”

Eddie Redmayne weighed in on the future of the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

The 42-year-old actor brought Newt Scamander to life in the Harry Potter spinoff series, which started with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2016. A sequel followed two years later, and in 2022 Eddie returned to the universe for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

The Fantastic Beasts movies are essentially done, at least for now.

David Yates, who directed the three Wizarding World of Harry Potter prequel movies and the last four HP movies, is speaking out about the possibility of a fourth Fantastic Beasts film.
