The Chi star Lynn Whitfield is opening up about her dramatic exit from the show!

The season 7 finale of The Chi was full of emotional twists and turns. One of the biggest shocks was the death of Alicia Daniels Lafayette, played by Lynn. Alicia’s death was the final twist in a long line of twists and turns in Alicia’s journey to learn the truth of what happened to her son.

The 72-year-old actress that played the role of Alicia on The Chi recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her character’s demise on the show and how it came as a surprise to her, just like to the viewers!

The Chi has been renewed for an eighth season!

Paramount+ with Showtime confirmed the renewal following the Season 7 premiere, which drew 2 million cross-platform viewers in the first seven days to become the series’ most-streamed premiere ever, via Deadline.

The Chi ties Dexter, Homeland and Weeds for the second-longest run in Showtime’s history, behind Shameless with 11 seasons.

The Lena Waithe-created series already commissioned a writers room back in February.

The show follows a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.

Paramount+ with SHOWTIME announced Season 7 of the hit original series will premiere Friday, May 16 on demand and on streaming for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan, before making its on-air debut on Sunday, May 18, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Part 2 of Season 6 of the hit Showtime series is set to air on Friday (May 10) on the network, and there are several stars joining the show. (Plus, huge news about Season 7 already!)
