More From U2.com:

U2.com > News > Bono Calls Michael Eavis: "Following news of Bono's recuperation period from surgery, Glastonbury Festival have confirmed that the band won't be able to perform their headline slot next month. Bono and Michael Eavis of Glastonbury spoke by phone this morning.

Said Bono: 'I'm heartbroken. We really wanted to be there to do something really special - we even wrote a song especially for the Festival.'

Said Michael Eavis: 'It was obvious from our telephone conversation that U2 are hugely disappointed. Clearly, they were looking forward to playing the Pyramid Stage as much as we were looking forward to watching them. At this point, we have no comment to make about possible replacements for U2's Friday night slot. Instead, we would simply like to send Bono our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.'"

Muse: future headliners at Glastonbury 2010?

It could just be wishful thinking from fans, but rumours about Muse appearing at Glastonbury 2010 are gathering pace online.

With U2 recently confirmed as one of the headline acts, various online sources are suggesting that Muse have also signed up to play.

The band has a clear schedule for Glasto weekend, and bass player Chris Wolstenholme has stated that the band would be playing festivals next summer.

"I think we'll be busy all summer, it will be a combination of stadiums and some headline festival slots," Chris told NME.com. "It's good to vary it up a bit."

No official comment has been made by the band or the festival organisers.
