Under the Weather.....

Time for a new challenge at Shopping Our Stash and it's Under the Weather so there are a couple of choices for your project, as the title says Weather could be rain, snow, hurricane lots of choices or you could make a Get Well project, which is what I ended up making. Since I had a lighthouse diecut card front and the distress oxide background in a project holder (from last summer at the cottage) I figured it would make a good masculine get well card.

I have used this die a few times but cut it out with a circle die this time I decided to use it as it was intended and how nice I had the perfect background too. I did add the red roof, now I noticed there was something funky going on with the lighthouse but thought it looked weathered and old so I enhanced it with the C00 copic. Since this past weekend I was doing the Scrapbooks & Cards three day card making crop I used a stencil and die from Pink Fresh Studio, love the whole set, flowers, words, dies, stencils I can hardly wait to dive in and use some of the other items. It was a fabulous, high paced not much time for eating or napping fun 3 days, (my experience with stencils is just above level 0)

Close up of the background and the lighthouse, it looks like weathered brick don't you think.

I have very few "get well" sentiments but used one of my earlier purchases from Hero Arts and is quite useful to let someone know you are thinking of them. I didn't get fancy with the inside but still might add a small lighthouse stamp to the inside.

Thanks for stopping by here today and  don't forget to check out the Main Blog to see what the rest of the design team have picked for their theme.

It's a House Mouse card!!! and a Mini Eclipse.

I did some colouring today on a House Mouse Designs image as I wanted to get back to entering the House Mouse & Friends Monday challenge.  Of course it is always Anything Goes but there is always a "twist" which is Spring Colours, heaven knows we can sure use some spring colours especially since Thursday we might be getting a snowstorm in SWO.  So here is my card.

While I was making Tuesday's card with stencils I decide to try mixing a few colours so I used three of my distress oxide inks and made a springy background. As I looked at the background I thought eclipse so I tried my hand at making an mini eclipse with a large Hello die. I'm very pleased how it turned out.

Close up of the super cute house mouse.

Since I'm so excited about the mini eclipse I had to do a close up.

Since this is a "hope you feel better" card for a friend that has been house bound since before Christmas I picked an appropriate sentiment.

I am entering this in
House Mouse & Friends Monday challenge ~~Anything Goes with the option of Spring Colours

I'm really on a roll with cards this last couple of weeks and I'm happy you have stopped by.

Challenge #343 at Shopping Our Stash is ~~ Stencils

Another fabulously interesting challenge from Mimi!!! Stencils!!! Check out the inspiration at Shopping Our Stash, the design team have outdone themselves, while you are there check out the awesome new header on the blog, Lauren did a fabulous job of designing it. Back to Stencils......I'm really not experienced with stencils although I have a few, two have been used but the rest just sit in my stash. The one I used is from Art-C it is a stencil and stamps and I have no idea where I got it from or how long I have had it, I sat and pondered it for quite a while and nothing comes to mind all I know is I have never used it before.

I bought distress inks and applicators last year and have used them very little so this was a test of what I could do with them with a stencil, I haven't ventured into mixed media very much although have lots of things to play with. Since this is a stencil challenge I wanted to give center stage to the stencil so for embellishments I used a wildflower die-cut and a couple of butterflies.  Using broken china oxide ink and sponge applicator I covered the stencil and white cardstock making sure I darkened the centers of the design, the finished piece was layered on some turquoise cardstock then mounted on a white base

Closer look at the wildflower die-cut and butterflies.

Finished inside of the card with a leftover wildflower die cut and a fitting sentiment for a friend's Mom that is in the hospital

Thanks for visiting today and I hope you dig into your stash and show how you use stencils.

Challenge #329 at Shopping Our Stash is ~~ Transportation!!!

At Shopping Our Stash we want to see what you would travel in....lots of ideas...trucks, cars, boats, planes, balloon well you get the idea. I decided to go with something older than me ....a bi-plane. I needed a masculine get well card, if you think a birthday card is hard try making a get well card.

I used Scrap and Stamp with Frenchie's tutorial for the fold, very interesting and very easy to do. the background paper is old and it's the first time I've used the bi-plane image and I've had it for eons. i used a circle of velum for the propeller and  a brad from my stash.

The card when it's open. (the recipient loved it)

Stash items are:
Patterned paper ~~ Stampin'up (3 or 4 years old)
Stamp set ~~ Stampin'up  1/12 to 2 years old
scrap of velum who knows how old lol.

Thanks for joining me today and please stop by the SOS Blog and check out the different types of Transportation the rest of the Design Team have made.

"Y" did I Buy That? asks the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers

Wow what a challenge, I have so many items that I ask that question of, I know at the time I did have a reason and what it boils down to is too many things too little time. Anyway the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers want you to dig you stash and find an item, stamp, embossing folder, a die that you just had to have or a medium that you had to have and never used and enter the challenge.

Here is the first item, I bought this set probably 10 years ago, I thought it was perfect for those quick cards you might need in a hurry, sad I didn't even remember it was a stamp AND an embossing folder. I stamped and embossed and coloured with my copics added some stickles  and voila' done.
Here is the set

Hero Arts cling stamp and a Sizzix Embossing folder.

Finished the inside for a Get Well card.

Since I was on a roll I decided to dig out my Gelatos that I needed and bribed hubby to take me to Michaels Art Store to purchase I bought the metallics since they were the only package that contained purple. I have had them probably a year with out even opening the package. I also bought Gesso and all the other stuff you need to do mixed media and it all still sits.

I did the Emboss resist on neenah cardstock The flourish is a TH sizzix die the background stamp is a Woodmount stamp from Stampin;up (retired) Butterflies are also from SU stamped, embossed and fussy cut and elevated on the flourish.

I love this and will use my gelatos more often.

Finished inside but I forgot to take a picture before I signed it, guess that is better than getting it the mail and remembering I hadn't taken any pictures.

Congratulations you have reached the end of a long picture laden post, I hope you are not too bored or napping.

Thanks for looking today and come and join the fun at The Sisterhood.

Floating Flowers

I love this design for a card, I used it with a bi-plane card I made a while back, Floating flowers is what France Martin calls this fold and I followed her video to make it so it's a total "case".  A couple of weeks ago I made a different card made with the same flowers and colours,  I am not a big fan of fall colours except looking at the trees when they change, but I try to use them every once in a while, and there has been a lot  of Pink going around.

Boy this was a nightmare to photograph, here is is closed.

Sort of a side view

A wider side view.

The link to the video is HERE

I was inspired to make this card by the Colour Challenge at Just us Girls and I would like to enter this in their challenge. ~~ Color Week #365 Gold, Rust and Olive.

Thanks for stopping by today, as you see I am not always making Christmas Cards.

The new challenge at the Sisterhood of Snarky stampers is H is for Hounds, guess it is self explanatory, we want to see those cute little hound dogs on your project.  so here is my offering for the challenge.

I found the super cute image on Pinterest, I though it would make the perfect get well card as she looks so sad.

close up of the super cute hound dog.

I love these tiny sentiments from Stampin'up they work so well in small spaces.

The inside isn't finished yet I need to either stamp or print a sentiment when I get home.

Shopping Our Stash #211 Don't get Stressed, get De-Stressed.

Looking for my Clear it Out Tuesday post scroll down or click HERE

What do you do when you get "Stressed" , Shopping Our Stash would like you to make a project that shows how you "De-Stress". Some might take a long walk or a lavender bubble bath I love to colour I can tune everything out as I pick the colours for the image I'm using, it's my form of meditation.  I also enjoy relaxing at the cottage on Lake Erie, although the weekends are very busy and noisy during the week is awesome.

The background was a failed product from an earlier challenge, it looked good but not what I had planned. It was a Copic/Alcohol technique but on a stardream paper instead of shiny cardstock.

The inside of the card with a top note and get well wish

Thanks for stopping by today and join the fun and show us how you "De-stress"

SoSS # 28 A is for Accident

Challenge #28 A is for Accident
The Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge you to make a Get Well Card. If Edna looks like this wonder what the other fellow looks like? Awesome picture of Edna thanks to our Tech. Guru Lee. Although it might have been a fun challenge to go snarky I resisted and made a cute one.
IMG_2699
I used a House Mouse Designs wood block stamp (you can get it in cling too) called Colour me Better with Muzzy and Monica. I made a frame with Resplendent  Rectangles and embossed the layer.

I love to use my cute critters when I get a chance and this one is a favourite of all the get well ones I have. They are just like having chips, you can’t just have one.

I seem to have very few get well sentiments, I stamped this one on the piece that was left after I cut the frame.

Under the Weather?

Well another of my “favourite” stamps……House Mouse, they are so cute. I had this one in my bin of coloured images that were slated for a card and it didn’t fit. There is a new group at Pages in Time just for sharing sketches and our cards made with the sketches which you will find here. I have used the scrapbooking layouts for doing cards and they do work quite well. It’s a great all round site for crafters too.
The image was already layered on Daffodil delight so my colour combination wasn’t to difficult to pick out, I used old olive and certainly celery for the base and accents. The dp is from my stash, Because my image was a little larger I used smaller rhinestones in the corner.

Thanks for stopping by today and if you want a great place to find new friends and to post your projects stop by Pages In Time Card group and have a look.

Crop Stop Challenge #28 “get wet”

The challenge at crop stop found here sounded very interesting, it is to use a wet medium on your card, layout or altered item. There were so many choices of mediums to use but since I have a nice selection of Twinkling H2os it was my chance to get them out and get them wet.
I used a stamp set from Stampin’ up called Fabulous Florets,  I stamped with versafne black and embossed with clear embossing powder, painted  them  with my H2os and cut them out. The leaves in the background were cut with a Creatables die from Marianne Designs I purchased from Stamp Art in London Ontario.
                 IMG_1196
Thanks for stopping by to see  the challenge I found to do. I hope I inspired you to dust off your Twinkling H20s and create.
