Season's Greetings - December 9th with Susan

Hello, friends! Susan here with a quick and easy project that doubles as a card and a gift.
Season's Greetings

We give several gift cards during the holiday season and I like to make them look a little fancy. They are a present after all, right?

Making
gift card cards.

I turned to my favorite source for creative ideas (Pinterest) and found this easy tutorial for making gift card holders. And easy is the name of the game during this busy time of year!

To make this project even easier, I pulled a 12x12 paper pad along with a pack of die-cuts from the same collection, and a couple of stamp sets. Then I grabbed a circle punch and a scoreboard - I don't think these tools are a necessity though. You could certainly use a ruler to make the folds and use scissors to cut the notch.

I followed the tutorial to make the base and then played with the stamps and die-cuts to decorate and embellish the cards. Here's a few peeks at the insides:

To kick the presentation up a notch, I slipped the cards into glassine bags I had on hand. (I save them from online purchases but some of the big box stores have them available as well.)

And since everything came together so quickly (I made three of these in less than an hour), I even had time to decorate the bags with some twine and more die-cuts.

I'm thrilled with how they turned out and hope the recipients will be happy to receive them as well!

I hope you'll give these a try - I am a very inexperienced cardmaker and I had no trouble at all putting them together. And make sure you come back again tomorrow and the rest of the month for more card ideas!

You know that we LOVE it when you share!

So, if you are inspired to make your own cards, layouts or projects - from Season's Greetings, a previous Christmas special, a Counterfeit Kit Challenge kit that you haven't quite used up or a new kit inspired by any one of our dozens and dozens of inspirational kits - you can share in these places:
See you tomorrow for more CKC inspiration!

November 2019 - Mini Kit Reveal and Projects

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the idea of a big kit this month?

Perhaps you just want to pull together a few products to get those creative juices flowing again.

Maybe a mini kit is the answer!

Today we'll be sharing a couple of mini kits and projects to give you a little inspiration.

First, here's a reminder of our November inspiration:

Susan puts together the sneak peeks each month and when it came time to put together her mini-kit, she kept returning to the second grid in the top row of the sneak peek:

She decided to base both her mini-kit and project on that framed stripe print so she pulled pieces of gray, blue and pink papers from her overflowing box of scraps. The design was already going to be busy so she limited her embellishments to one 3x4 pocket card and a sheet of heart puffy stickers.

Susan has been working on a 6x8 album documenting her favorite quotes and used her mini-kit for this entry about another favorite hobby, gardening:

For MF Laura, the concept of a mini kit was a little bit tough! Once she started pulling supplies she couldn't stop, so instead broke them down into smaller page kits.

And made a layout with page kit 2

October 2019 - Mini Kit Reveal and Projects

Are you feeling overwhelmed by the idea of a big kit this month?

Perhaps you just want to pull together a few products to get those creative juices flowing again.

Maybe a mini kit is the answer!

Today we'll be sharing a couple of mini kits and projects to give you a little inspiration.

First, let's remind ourselves of this month's inspiration kit, the beautiful 'Summer of '69' kit from Studio Calico back in august 2012

MF Susan found herself struck by the pink/red mix of the inspiration kit and she began pulling 6x6 papers in those shades. Once she realized that she had a little stack, she decided that instead of narrowing down those options and adding in the rest of the colors from the inspiration kit, she'd embrace the pink/red vibe and use just those colors for her mini kit!  Here's what she chose:

She included a hexagon punch to mirror the hexagon die-cuts from the Studio Calico kit.  And then she put that punch to work and made this page:

MF Lisa decided to make her mini kit from her scrap box. When she spotted the Studio Calico Banner (you can just spy it there next to the glass container) she knew that this would be the perfect item to form the base to her kit. It was very reminiscent of the original inspiration and colours, and that drove her to pick out all older papers and products - Dear Lizzy, October Afternoon, Authentique, BasicGrey, Cosmo Cricket - in patterns and shades that went with that paper and seemed to match the mood of the original kit. As always, it looks bigger than it really is and there are no full sized sheets in there.

She then used those products to make this page that definitely has a "throwback" feel in colours and style. She's used a lot of items that she often added to her layouts in the past such as flowers, buttons tied up with string or ribbon, and banners to give this layout a feeling of being created in 2012! She intends on using the rest of the supplies to make up a bunch of greetings cards for her stock. Those banner flags and miscellaneous embellishments seem perfect as decoration for simple cards that will use up all those leftovers. Win-win!
