You Hold The Key To My Heart

Today I posted the first challenge for scrapping our stash over at Let's Scrap.  The group I started last month called Let's Scrap Our Stash has been a great success and already has 55 members.  At the request of those members I will be providing them with a challenge each Monday and there will be a draw for a rac at the end of each month.
For this weeks challenge I asked the members to do a layout or 2 cards that have 2 metal embellishments, 2 different colored ribbons of any length and to use at least 3 different punches. Here is the layout I made for the challenge
.
I really like the Nellie Multi Frame Heart Die I got a while back.  It's similar to the shapeablities in that you use it with your cuttlebug and it will cut the shape and them emboss it. Here's a closeup of the heart I made with it.
This is a picture of my grandson Jacob and I taken at Christmas.  The items I used for the challenge were
2 Metal embellishments - the key and the lock
2 different color ribbons - a red and a white ribbon tied to the key
3 punches - I used a large Martha Stewart heart border punch on the left side of the layout, a small Martha Stewart heart border punch on the bottom of the layout and a Fiskars Photo Corner heart punch for the frame around my picture.

Other items used were
pp - Bo Bunny
CS - Brazil
Cricut to cut the two upper right hearts
Cuttlebug and Nellie's Multi Heart Frame

I can't wait to see what the members come up with for the challenge. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Happy Scrapping.

Jacob's First Easter

My Grandson Jacob and his Mom Katie flew out to British Columbia for a two week vacation with his Nana and Papa (Katie's parents). This is Jacob's second trip by plane. He was born in B.C. but moved to our little town in Ontario when he was a month old. They had a fantastic visit and were there for his first Easter. I wanted to scrap his Easter picture taken while he was away and also ones I took when he returned and got his gifts from us. The sketch from a Lets Scrap challenge was perfect for the pictures. Here is the sketch

and here is my layout

I was really pleased with how it turned out. The paper and rub ons were from my stash and the eggs I cut using my Cricut and SCAL. Jacob is wearing to different bunny ears because he received a pair from both sets of Grandparents.

Will I better get moving I have another layout I'm trying to do for a Lets Scrap challenge. It's giving me a bit of trouble so not sure if I will get it done in time for the deadline but going to give it a try.

I hope you are having a fantastic day.

Heritage Layout - My Great Grandmother

It's taken me a lot longer to get this layout done than I had planned but I finally finished it tonight. It's another heritage layout, this time of my Great Grandmother Ann Brisco. As you may remember a while back I did a layout of my Great Grandfather who was Ann's husband. I had a lot of journaling to do and I was having trouble finding a way to hide it to make room to put another picture and keepsake on the layout. Retta, a friend in my Scrapbooking Class yahoo group, suggested a steamer trunk and was kind enough to make me a svg. that I could cut out with my Cricut. Its so nice to have friends who are willing to lend a hand when needed. Thanks Retta. I used grunge board paper and walnut distress ink for the straps on the trunk. The buckles, brads and lock were made to look rusted by using glossy accents and alcohol ink and then using the heat gun on them. I got the idea for the rusted look from this tutorial Magnets hold the buckles down and the bottom closed. I did a lot of distressing and some tearing of the paper. The paper is from the Graphic 45 line. I just love their paper for my heritage pages.

Karen, another cyber friend, had mentioned that when she did her heritage layouts that she was going to put a key of some sort on each layout to create some continuity. I loved the idea but couldn't decide which item from my Great Grandfathers layout to use for my Great Grandmothers so I used three items instead LOL. I put some butterflies, the ticket stub and if you look closely at the three flowers on the first page you will see a small clock in the centre of one of them.

Some of my siblings, nieces and nephew's are interested in the heritage layouts I do so I've put a close up of the journaling so that they can read a little about their ancestor. Anyone else that is interested please feel free to read it to. The pictures in the locket have yellowed quite a bit which is understandable as it was left to my grandfather in 1914 but was probably worn by Ann for many years before that. I hope that everyone enjoys the layout. I know I had lots of fun making it.
