Spider, Spider in the Pot

I couldn't resist this spider who clearly fears for his life!  Spiders are my most unfavorite creatures on earth - just looking at pictures of most spiders makes my stomach shudder and turn over.  I don't even take down cobwebs until there are so filled with dust and grime that I'm sure no self-respecting spider would live there any more.  So, seeing a spider about to be boiled bothers me not at all !  lol

This image is from a collection by Zigi Design Studio which I bought recently and many were used this Halloween, including this one on another card which I posted earlier.  All the images come pre-colored but they can easily be printed in grayscale and colored with Ohuhu markers &/or colored pencils.  Printing in grayscale means that you already have all the shadows and highlights and that allows you to shade in exactly the right spots.

The image was cut with a QuicKutz die, the edges were inked, and I matted it with a scrap of orange CS.  The striped paper is from a Recollections stack.  The sentiment was printed and then cut with an Avery Elle die.  Simple, quick, and easy to mail.

     Challenges:

I should have two more Halloween cards between now and the start of November.  I made so many cards this year, I had to mail Halloween greetings to everyone in my family and a few friends besides.  :-D

Boiled Spider w Peas & Carrots

I just had to share this card today which features another of the silly spiders (creatures I despise IRL) from Zigi Designs and which is going to the dietician at our local senior center.  She's the one in charge of menu planning and she supervises the entire kitchen staff.  Fortunately, she has a tremendous sense of humor and I know she'll love it!

The sentiment came out of my head when I wads thinking about a card for her and this spider dipping himself in the boiling cauldron lent itself well to the spirit of this card.  The image was cut with a Cottage Cutz die and I put the background together with paper scraps left over from a Recollections Halloween stack.  I printed and cut the sentiment with a small Tonic Studios die.

Spider Treat Box

We're starting a new challenge at Pammie's Inky Pinkies this morning and our theme is "Anything Goes."  We are being sponsored by The Cutting Cafe and they have some of the cutest projects, including this adorable Spider Treat Box.  Their .svg file is designed for electronic cutting machines but, since I don't have one, I used their .pdf file and cut everything by hand.

Mine is a little different than the sample you'll see on the Cutting Cafe's website but that's because I printed the spider onto white CS, colored it black with my ProMarkers, cut it with scissors and attached it to a little, orange box I made with my ScorPal board.  Black and Orange is still my favorite color combo for Halloween, even though I'm perfectly fine with purple and some shade of muted olive green having been added as spooky colors in more recent years.  Those of you who are over 50 will know what I mean.

I used tiny google eyes to make the spider eyes, opting to add them to two small ovals so that they looked more like 'people' eyes.  I found that spreading them across the spider face (the actual placement of real spider eyes) was distracting and nearly unidentifiable so did them this way instead.  At least, you still get the sense of multiple eyes.  :-D

I used sparkly, metallic, wired ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon to make the triple loop bow and attached that to the top of the spider, as though it was a jaunty, autumn chapeau!  Hope you like him.  If you have an electronic cutter, you could make dozens of these with the .svg file from The Cutting Cafe in the amount of time I spent making just this one.

     Challenges:

Don't forget that our challenges at Pammie's Inky Pinkies run every week, starting on Mondays and our theme is always Anything Goes except for the occasional 5th Monday in a month when we have a specific theme.  Come play with us - this is an Anything Goes week.          :-D

Arachnophobia

I can't believe I made this card for the new challenge at QKR Stampede.  You have to understand that I hate spiders, I REALLY hate spiders!   But these two seemed so cute and friendly somehow (Digi 12301 "Spider" and Digi 12302 "Spider") that I decided to use them to fight my arachnophobia.  :-D  Besides, they were perfect for our theme of "Fall Colors."

I colored the spiders with my new polychromos pencils but I did the shadows around them with my ProMarkers.  I used a Spellbinders' die to cut out the image, then trimmed one side of it.  I decided to add the gate and fence which gave it a Halloween feel.  One of my grandsons will love this one, I'm sure.

     Challenges:

Come play with us this week, won't you?   Just use any of the fall colors on your card.  You don't have to use QKR Stampede images but if you do, your card will be entered into a separate drawing and that really increases your chance of winning more QKR images.  Happy Stamping.  NanaConnie
