Less is More Week #339

Good morning, crafters

Saturday morning means it's time for a new challenge to launch over at Less is More and as there are five Saturdays in this month we have a Lucky Dip challenge for you.

But first I have some sad news.  Our lovely Sarah G is stepping down from the Design Team.  Sarah has a busy working life, so with the added pressure of design team commitments, both have become difficult to accomplish.  We're all going to miss you on the team, Sarah.  Please do pop over and wish her well :)

So, onto the challenge, here are the details...

We'd like to see paper piercing, brads, eyelets, sewing, etc.

I have two cards to share with you and for my first I am revisiting one of my designs which was ShowCASed at this very challenge back in February 2014 as well as achieving a win at Addicted to Stamps and More!  This is pretty much a blatant copy of this card, I've just changed up the colours and the sentiment...

I covered the card base with some green striped paper and cut a panel slightly smaller than the card base.  The image was stamped in black and the sentiment in pink and black.  I then affixed eyelets to take the place of some of the rings of the design.  The panel was then adhered flat to the base.

Materials used:
  • Patterned Paper: Lawn Fawn - Let's Bokeh in the Snow
  • Stamps: Marion Emberson - On Your Special Day; Altenew - Celebrate
  • Ink: Versafine - Onyx Black; Versa Color - Opera Pink
  • Eyelets from stash

Challenge entries:

The Color Throwdown - Challenge #453
House of Cards - July Challenge - Stripes and/or colours
Just Us Girls - Challenge #404 - Something Old and/or Something New (a new version of an old design and the eyelets in my stash are really old!)

For my second card I did some paper piercing as well as using a pierced die...

I started by stamping the ring in VersaMark and heat embossed in platinum.  I then added the pierced heart detail using a paper piercing template.  I die cut this out with a pierced square die and mounted it onto my card base using 3D foam.  I coloured the gemstone with a pale blue Zig marker and added some shimmer to the whole ring with some clear Wink of Stella.  The sentiment was stamped below the panel in black.

Materials used:

  • Stamps: Lawn Fawn - Happy Wedding
  • Ink: VersaMark; Versafine - Onyx Black
  • Embossing Powder: Wow! - Metallic Platinum
  • Die: MFT Die-namics - Pierced Square Stax
  • Pierced heart using Stampin' Up Paper-Piercing Pack Essentials
  • Accents: Zig Clean Color Real Brush Marker; Wink of Stella - Clear

Challenge entry:

STAMPlorations - Summer CAS Card Challenge

This might be an opportunity to revisit some oldie but goodie techniques so why not play along!

Thanks so much for stopping by today.

Less is More Week #302

Hi there

Welcome to new challenge day at Less is More.  And once again it's the turn of our One Layer challenge.  And our theme for you this week is...

Books / Literature

I'll admit, this one stumped me this week, so just one sample for you this time.  And as it's a one layer challenge I decided to make a bookmark...

I started by die cutting a piece of white cardstock using a fishtail flag die.  Next I stamped the bookworm, masked him to stamp the bookshelf, and with the masks still in place I stamped the text background.  I wanted a faded look to the text so once the stamp was inked up in grey I blotted slightly with a paper towel before stamping.  I coloured the bookworm and bookshelf with ProMarkers and Flexmarkers.  The sentiment flag was stamped in turquoise flush with the edge.  I fixed an olive green eyelet to the top to co-ordinate with the worm and threaded some red ribbon through it.  For a finishing touch I added some Glossy Accents to the worm's glasses.

Materials used:
  • Die: MFT Die-namics - Fishtail Flag Stax
  • Stamps: Clearly Besotted - Bookworm, Bookworm Additions, Background Builder
  • Ink: Memento - Tuxedo Black; Versa Color - Turquoise, Sky Gray
  • Coloured with ProMarkers and FlexMarkers
  • Eyelet and ribbon from stash
  • Accents: Glossy Accents

Challenge entries:

Addicted to Stamps and More - Challenge #219 - CAS

I hope you'll play along this week.  My teamies have created some great inspiration to get you started.  Looking forward to seeing you in the gallery.

Eyelet Accents

Hi there

Tonight I've made a card and managed to combine a few challenges.

The first challenge is at Less Is More and this week the recipe is to use any kind of metal on our creations.

There is another challenge this week at Daring Cardmakers and the theme there is 'Old but not Forgotten'.

When I first started cardmaking many years ago I used a lot of eyelets and brads but these have been abandoned for a year or so and certainly since I started blogging, so I thought I'd give my eyelets an airing.

Until now I've used them to accent corners or to thread ribbon through but I went in a different direction today and used them to accent my stamped image...

When looking through my stamps this one just jumped out at me as it had little rings which were perfect to accent with the eyelets.  I stamped the image on a white panel and randomly affixed the coloured eyelets.  I chose a bright pink card base but didn't want the pink to show through the holes in the eyelets so I adhered a scrap of black cardstock behind the eyelet section before attaching the panel to the cardbase with 3D foam strips.  And there you have it, so easy.

Materials used:
  • Stamps: Marion Emberson Designs - On your special day; Clearly Besotted Stamps - Many Messages
  • Ink: Versafine - Onyx Black
  • Eyelets and cardstock from stash

I would also like to enter this card into the following challenges:
