Clearing The Greenhouse ...

Good Morning!
Last week I decided it was time to give the GH a good clean after disposing of this year's Tomato Plants. This should hopefully get rid of any pests that were wanting to stay over winter!
I cleaned the outside and inside panels which would also help let more light in on winter days.

As you can see I have started putting my bubble insulation back up, I kept last years but gave it a good hose down before putting into place. I shall be adding the rest of the insulation soon.

At the far end you can see my collection of trays and pots, along with a few plants!
The Orchid on the left has since been moved into my conservatory but the Fuschia 'Black Prince' and White Cyclamen will hopefully be staying put over winter.

I have brought my Agapanthus under cover as it's not the hardiest of plants. You may get away with leaving it outside in a southern, sheltered garden but certainly not in mine!
TIP - When bringing plants in make sure you inspect each leaf and the container for any hitch-hiking pests!

I also brought in my Alstromeria which I re-potted and rid of old growth beforehand.

Over on the other side you can see the Staging which has my Pelargoniums on top as mentioned in my previous post, various cuttings, seedlings and a range of Alpines.

There are still some more plants to come in, such as my Abutilon & Chocolate Cosmos before the temperature drops so I may end up having to have another re-shuffle to fit things in! lol

Blooming Visitors ...

Good Morning!
Recently some of the plants that haven't bloomed yet are finally starting to do so, so I wanted to share them with you all today.
Let's start off with some of the Fuschia's, the one's in pots that are displayed infront of the GH haven't done so yet but one in a Hanging Basket 'Trudi Davro' and one in a pot at the front of the house, has.

The Crocosmia 'Lucifer' at the back of the garden has opened it's petals and looks stunning with the colour and height.

I have two Phygelius planted in a border alongside the lawn which look great with their spires of bell shaped flowers.

Lastly we had a little visitor in our garden recently, I found him on our front lawn so moved him into our back garden due to our road. He was a large Hedgehog and ever so cute! He enjoyed a patter around the garden before leaving through a gap in the fence. Contrary to what people say it is best to give them water, not milk. Unfortunately I didn't have any food to give him but he did seem to find a few slugs / snails before he left! It's always nice when wildlife visits your garden.

Blooms, Blooms, Blooms ...

Good Morning!
I added a Hardy Fuschia to the main border in the back garden earlier this week. I know your all thinking how on earth did I manage that considering how full my garden is already! Well I simply replaced another plant which was moved to the part of the garden behind the GH. Where there's a will there's a way!

The Hardy Fuschia is the variety 'Hawkshead' and with it's beautiful white flowers it brightens up the space it's in. It's a great contrast to my other Hardy Fuschia which has striking red & purple flowers!

When planting in the border I always incorporate compost and some fish, blood & bone into the planting hole to give it a head start.

I then filled the hole back up with fresh compost and gave it a good soak!

In the same border the Astrantia's are flowering and with their dainty blooms I couldn't resist sharing them with you. These are perfect for Woodland areas or shade as they do well in those tricky areas.

TIP - If you haven't already started it's time to start cutting your Sweet Peas! I know you may be thinking that you don't want to but not only do they look lovely in a vase and fill your house with their perfume, but it helps promote more flowers on the plant so it's a win win situation!

Lastly another Rose in my garden bloomed this week and this one is called 'Champagne Moment'.
Me and Andy bought it last year and seeing that was the year we got engaged it's sentimental.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Cuttings ...

Good Morning!
Do you remember the Fuschia cuttings that I took a few weeks ago? Well it was time to pot them on yet again this week and as you can see they have developed a good root system.

Fuchsia 'Mrs Popple'

It's also a good time to take some cuttings from your shrubs now.
I decided to take some Box and Hebe 'Pearl of Paradise' cuttings. Speaking of which the Hebe is in full flower in the garden and brightens up the shady place that it is in wonderfully!

Just like with Fuschia cuttings make sure you cut beneath a leaf joint and use healthy new growth that isn't flowering. Trim back the lower leafs from the cutting.

Dip the cutting into some Rooting Powder...

Place the cutting into some compost & vermiculite which has been watered and keep in a warm place, but out of direct sunlight. Fingers crossed in the next few weeks we shall have some more plants!
