Card #21 - Saturated Canary, CPS, and Paper Sundaes

Holy cow, have you SEEN these images from Krista Smith at Saturated Canary?! Aren't they the cutest??? I'd been drooling over them for a while, so when I opened my Dashboard one night and noticed a post for a sale on this image for a limited time (it's actually a Christmas image, comes with a present/nutcracker that I trimmed out) I snapped it up right away! And good thing I did, too, lots of people missed out! Anyway, I tried colouring with new paper for this one, I think it was the Copic X-press stuff. It's super smooth, but I think there's a learning curve to it because I definitely overdid it in a couple of places. Plus I went out of the lines a whole bunch, so I had to trim her out (seems I do that with all my images anyway!) and I had a heck of a time with her ringlets! Overall, though, I'm pleased with the results. The challenge this week at Saturated Canary is a recipe: use 1 image, 2 papers, and 3 embellishments (I used twine, flowers, and pearls). Don't you love this sketch from CPS?:
I flipped it to fit the image, of course. I'm also entering this card at Paper Sundaes, who are asking for "rectangles" this week.

Supplies: CTMH and Copic X-press cardstock, Cosmo Cricket and unknown patterned paper, Twinery twine, Prima flowers, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, Copic markers, and CTMH pearls

Card #8 - Scrapbooker's Anonymous and CPS 223

My poor auntie, she just had surgery on her foot. Something to do with nerves and/or tendons, and she has to stay off her feet for a while still. I made her this card, even though she might not get it for a loooooong time, seeing Canada Post is on strike.

I still had out my pretty Basic Grey "Sugared" scraps I used for my last layout, and discovered that my measly supply of Copics matched pretty well. (Making a card from these scraps means I can enter the Scrapbooker's Anonymous challenge twice!!!) I coloured up this image of 50's Kaylee from Some Odd Girl, and used this sketch from CPS (flipped around):
I had a heck of a time trying to embellish this card! I really like the paper flowers I came up with, but I still think the card is kind of plain. I tried a grungeboard fluorish and ribbon, but nothing was really working out. Here's something I discovered which was like, a total light bulb moment for me: see how Kaylee is placed on embossed cardstock? Well, she's raised up just the slightest, and my light caused a shadow. I took my C3 copic, and traced the shadow!!! I didn't even have to think about light sources and how big the shadow should be or where it should go, it was just there! So cool, I just can't believe it! Then there's my dumb blonde moment (and I'm not even blonde!): this is 50's Kaylee, but isn't "groovy/grooving" a 60's term? I thought of that after, but maybe my aunt will be so doped up on painkillers she won't notice!

Supplies: CTMH cardstock, ink, watercolor pencil and gems, Some Odd Girl image, Basic Grey patterned papers, Hampton Arts stamps, Creative Memories pen, Ranger Glossy Accents, Copic markers

Card #3

First off, let me say I've been trying all week to leave comments at some of your blogs, and blogger is still not letting me, grrrrrr!!! I will try again this week, but rest assured I am keeping tabs on all of you, haha!

Second, it is great to be back in the Cariboo (the region, not to be confused with the caribou animal!) I was able to get in to my LSS, Creative Accents, a couple of times this week, once for a Beginner Copics class with Cheri, and again yesterday (Jason wanted to buy a canoe, more on that later). So even though this particular LSS is an hour drive away, it is still more accessible than say, a 5 hour drive to Whitehorse or a 2 hour drive to Smithers. And their class list is quite extensive, so I should be able to get my craft on there at least once in a while. So stoked about that, woohoo! Anyway, check out the Creative Accents Challenge Blog here. They are just getting started, and you don't have to be anywhere near us to take part in the challenges.

I bought this Andrea Acorn stamp from Kraftin' Kimmie there, and the sentiment that goes along with this set is just perfect: "Aw, nuts, I forgot your birthday!" Happens to me all the time, so I think this set will get a lot of use. I coloured her up with my Copics, but seeing I don't have that many, her dress is the same colour as her hair. Probably didn't need to point that out to everybody, but in case you are wondering why I chose to do it that way, well, there ya have it, heehee! Cheri gave some good advice to invest in some grays, so I bought a gray and that way I was able to make some shadows in the green robe without even buying a green. Neat, eh? I made the green robe using a Close to My Heart Olive ink pad and blending pen, which probably didn't give ideal results, but I don't think it's too bad.

I'm hoping I can get in on some challenges with this card. I used sketch 219 from CPS, and I used the backside of the Webster's paper from my last post as the patterned paper, which means I can enter Scrapbooker's Anonymous bonus challenge. But, the main reason for making this card is because I missed my Burns Lake friend Maria's 40th birthday, which happened sometime in May. Happy Birthday, Maria, miss you and hope you had a great birthday!

CPS 208

Ailis had a b-day party to go to on Sunday, so I worked all morning to make this card (it was supposed to be a quickie!) When she got home from the party, I asked her what her little friend thought of her present (and card), and she said, "I don't know, we couldn't find it!" Hmph, all that work for nothing?

Anyway, I used my fave Some Odd Girl image, Starbright Tia, a sketch from CPS, and some paper scraps. You can't see from the photo, but the pink strip is glitter paper. I think it turned out all right. I just hope someone finds it to appreciate it!

Supplies: CTMH cardstock, ink, blending pen, and Shining Star stamp set, Kaisercraft patterned paper, Doodlebug glitter paper, Autumn Leaves stamp set, Some Odd Girl digital image, 7 Gypsies brads, Copic markers, white acrylic paint

Card for TPE, Dutch Dare, and CPS 200

While I had my pink, aqua, and orange scraps out for the last Pink Elephant layout I did, I decided I should make a card with the same colours. I didn't have any suitable orange patterned paper, so I used some bubble wrap and some Sunset ink from Close to My Heart to make the card background - pretty cool, eh? I found a sketch I liked at CPS, flipped it a bit, then added some machine stitching on my papers to go along with the challenge at Dutch Dare this week. The image is from Some Odd Girl, and she's a freebie over there right now, soooooo cute! I only have 8 Copic markers, so her dress, socks and headband are coloured with a CTMH blender pen dipped in Juniper ink, and I think this works pretty well, especially when I need to match something up to CTMH paper. My question to you Copic experts out there is this: What kind of paper do you print your digi stamps on? I've been using CTMH cardstock, because that's what I have available to me, and I'm having a hard time getting my markers to blend. I'd appreciate any opinions you have!

Supplies: CTMH Colonial White cardstock, Sunset and Juniper ink, blender pen, and patterned paper, Some Odd Girl digital image, Copic markers, Basic Grey patterned paper, unknown trim

Threefer!

Is that even a word, "threefer"? What I meant was three challenges in one, like two-for-one, only with three, get it? OK, I should probably be going to bed, 'cause I'm gettin' a little goofy! I was away on a little holiday last week, so when I came home yesterday with some new goodies, I was just rarin' to go. I love this stamp set from Tim Holtz with the bird, swirl and handwriting (which you can just barely see in the background there), don't you? I think I'll be using it a lot. Anyhoo, my 3 three challenges are these:

CPS 179 Part 1: a sketch, never tried one of their sketches before, but I love it. Of course, I had to flip it around a little and change it up some, but the idea is still there.

Design Dollies: colours this week are yellow, white, and kraft. LOVE it, may use it again for a layout, stay tuned!

Stampin' Royalty: make your own background paper. I used two different background stamps to make two different backgrounds. Must get more background stamps, very versatile things, they are!

And there you have it, a nice little birthday card for my Auntie Judy, whose birthday I missed by about 3 weeks, more like 4 by the time it gets to her. Oops!

Supplies (all Close to My Heart): card base, White Daisy cardstock, ribbon slide, and flower brads, Intrinsic Backgrounds My Acrylix stamp set, Exclusive Inks stamp pads in Creme Brulee, Desert Sand, and Cocoa

Other: Tim Holtz Urban Grunge stamp set and Tea Dye Distress Ink, unknown ribbon and paper flowers, staples
