Ballet and Lace

Rubbernecker Stamps came out with some new ballet themed stamps.  While I don't dance... someone who I love does. (Hi, daughter from another mother ;) ) So they needed to  come to my house to play.

One of my favorite parts of the ballet, is the costumes!  Satin, Lace and Tulle!  All of which were the inspiration for this card.

Details:

  • Stamps: Ballet Dancer, Lace Netting, Lace Square, Lace Border Set, and Flora Damask background stamps all from Rubbernecker Stamps;
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black; Adirondack shell pink and salmon die ink pads; Versamark;
  • Paper: Bazzill cardstock; Bristol Smooth paper;
  • Accessories: White embossing powder; Copic Markers, Stickles glitter glue; ribbon; hole punch; EK Success border punch; foam tape;
To bring out the lace detail the lace border and square stamps were stamped with Versamark on white cardstock, heat embossed with white embossing powder, then sponged with shell pink and salmon ink. To sponge ink use the Inkssentials blending tool and sponge.

Thanks for stopping to take a look!

Soar...

So I was cleaning up my desk... and that is how this card came to be. *wink*
At least a couple of elements on this card were leftovers from other projects.
Details:

  • Paper: Shipping tag; navy blue and white cardstock; Decorative paper from Graphic 45;
  • Stamps: Floral Flourish#1; Butterflies are Free set; Alphabet Set #2
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black; Tim Holtz Distress Inks: faded jeans, broken china, tumbled glass, antique linen, frayed burlap, dusty concord;
  • Accessories: white embossing powder; stickles; Martha Stewart lace punch; ribbon;

I figured it all looked better on a card than in the trash bin.
Thanks for taking the time to look!

Amazing Grace

I first held respect for this hymn when my Great Grandmother was alive (she lived to be 102) and she claimed it as her favorite.  As I grew, I became amazed at the depth of its meaning.

This is a set of cards I made for my husband's office manager. Since she actually sends cards, I made them thin and sendable by keeping most of the stamping on one layer.
I used these steps to do this:

  • The butterfly is a negative mask made by die cutting a piece of office paper.
  • I used office paper since it is thin and would allow the music stamp to fill the details.
  • I then lined up another negative mask, this one cut into cardstock so it would be sturdy. I sponged ink to further emphasize the butterfly shape.
  • The colorful flourish is stamped using reinkers and custom stamp pad technique. You can see this technique HERE.
  • The second step of the flourish (it is a 2-step stamp) I inked it with VersaMark Ink (embossing ink will do) then clear embossed it.
  • I didn't have clear/glitter embossing powder so I sprinkled the embossed area with fine clear glitter and heated the card from underneath.  This re-melted the embossing powder sticking the glitter to the powder.
So that it like three layers on one piece of cardstock!  Lots of visual dimension but very light weight!

Details:

  • Stamps: two part flourish 01; music background; amazing grace; All from Rubbernecker Stamp Co.
  • Ink: StazOn Jet black; Tim Holtz distress ink: Antique Linen, Faded Lipstick; Peeled Paint; Scattered Straw, Peacock Feathers, Faded Jeans; Dusty Concord; VersaMark;
  • Paper: Cardstock (white, black and kiwi)
  • Accessories: Cut-n-dry Stamp pad; foam tape, Spellbinders dies; clear embossing powder, fine/clear glitter, foam tape;
I hope Melissa likes these!

A little resistance...

Embossing resist is truly one of my favorite techniques.  It is always magic to me.
There is a good tutorial HERE.

I used the Rubbernecker stamp, Journal Circle Flourish.  It was originally designed to be a scrapbooking stamp, but I like it as a frame.  Especially since Rubbernecker has SO many wonderful phrase stamps.

On both cards I used clear embossing powder, but white would work just as well.  I also used the same inks on both.  I use Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Dried Marigold and Spun Sugar.  (I love to use Dried Marigold with pinks since it has such pretty pink undertones.)
I also used some Stickles (glitter glue) to add a touch of sparkle.
In this first card I used the sentiment stamp: Best Things.  I made a simple cut between the lines "aren't things" and "thanks for".  I can re-assemble them later if need be.

The second card uses the "a true friend" sentiment; it can also be found in the Garden Tree set (one of my favorites).

Thanks for stopping by, today.

VERY soon I will have a tutorial featuring the demo I did at the Novi, MI stamp show in the Rubbernecker Stamp Company booth.
