Linda Coughlin from The Funkie Junkie
Linda blog photo
Like most of us, Linda came to paper crafting after being involved in some sort of craft hobby most of her life.  She’s played around with pottery, sewing, cross stitching, home dΓ©cor projects and was a Creative Memories consultant for over 10 years.  Then her best friend became a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator and her love of stamping began.  Her favourite crafting styles are shabby chic and Tim Holtz style vintage.  She started blogging in 2008 and has been on numerous design teams.  She is currently designing for Artistic Outpost and Our Creative Corner plus her own design team Frilly and Funkie.  Linda and her husband are both retired and moved from Miami to Gainesville, Florida last year.  Besides keeping busy with paper crafting, Linda is an avid bicyclist and has her own online craft supplies store.

What an honor it is to be a guest designer for this fantastic new Tim Holtz style blog and to join in The Vintage Journey with all the uber talented designers!  I’m so excited to be able to share my Springtime in Paris project with you today.  When I was given the challenge theme of Paris, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to really delve into a springtime in Paris motiff.  My design intent was to make a triptych but in the end, when I had all my embellishments made and laid out, I just couldn’t squeeze them into three panels and ended up with a quadriptych.

lcoughlin.4.14.VJ2
I started by cutting my panels with the Postage Stamp die.  The first panel is white card stock and was embossed with a brick wall texture fade.  I created a rusty trellis with chipboard embossed with Vintage Photo distress embossing powder.  The ivy was cut with the new Spring Greenery decorative strip die, colored with Bundled Sage and stamped with the postage seal stamp from the Paris to London set.  I created the Paris seal with a vintage download from the internet and covered it with a clear epoxy seal.

Panel two was also a piece of white card stock stamped with the new Distress Damask stamp set, embossed with Winter White embossing powder and sponged with Vintage Photo.  I used some wonderful vintage ephemera from the Thrift Shop pack and added a couple of lovely metal embellies from the Adornments - Nature collection.  I also downloaded the vintage rose image from the internet and created another epoxy seal.

Panel three was another piece of white card stock, this time stamped with the background stamp from Papillon.  Embossing was added using the Harlequin stencil and Wendy Vecchi’s black embossing paste.  A tag was created using a stamp from the Mini Classics set stamped in Vermillion archival ink and sponged with Frayed Burlap.  The crinkled seam binding bow was dyed with Stormy Sky and an Eiffel Tower charm was added.

Panel four is an aluminium sheet embossed with the a texture fade which was then painted with Pitch Black acrylic paint, partially dried and then the paint was wiped off.  I added a post card from the Thrift Shop pack and made a little envelope, sponged with Stormy Sky DI and stamped with the postage seal stamp from Paris to London.
My flowers were all cut from white card stock using the Tattered Flowers decorative strip die.  The CS was colored with a mix of Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick distress stains.  They were then misted with water, scrunched up, dried and carefully unfurled.  Each petal was then sponged with Vintage Photo DI and I added self adhesive rhinestones as centres.

There you have it.  I had a wonderful time playing with all the wonderful Tim Holtz products while creating this piece. I hope you like my tribute to Paris in the springtime.   Thank so much to the design team of A Vintage Journey for inviting me to be their guest designer for ‘A Little bit French’ challenge!

To find out more about Linda’s fabulous work please pop over to her blog to see the amazing art she produces. She is a great inspiration to so many of us and at the end of the year she runs her 12 Tags of Christmas challenge which is a very popular place to be with so much inspiration from this lovely lady herself.

Challenge 3 - A Little bit French

Hello everyone, this is Astrid from Astrid's Artistic Efforts. I am super excited to host the third challenge and very much hope you will feel inspired to join us again. The theme I have chosen is "A Little bit French". So whatever you decide to make, give your project that little bit of a French feel. Tim has so many products that can be used to create a Springtime in Paris make, or if that does not take your fancy, why not something grungy or vintage but with a bit of a French flair?  Think stamps, embossing folders, Distress products, dies, - the possibilities are endless. Whatever you do, enjoy the journey, but for this challenge, take it to France!

The moment I saw Tim's new Collection Folios I fell in love, but I have not yet been able to get hold of one. So instead, I created my own mini version, albeit without the elastic band. If you want to know how and follow the love story of the dashing young Florence Du PrΓ© as he meets la belle Rose Delieu, just visit my blog...

I had a fabulous time making this card with Astrid's French theme!  Tim's inks, paints, tissue tape, dies and stamps together with lace, feathers and even an old fashioned fleur-de-lys envelope seal all wrapped into Tim's techniques - what fun!

Bonjour! Are you ready for a trip to France? This week's challenge theme is "A Little Bit French".  My very dimensional and vintage/shabby tissue box cover was so much fun to make...and useful! Every side employes different techniques, images, products and textures.

Jenny

Oooh La La! What a fun French theme this fortnight. DT team mate Anne was kind enough to gift me some papers from the new Tim Holtz Wallflower collection and I just couldn't resist working with them for this card. It's definitely got that 'Springtime in Paris' feel, with a twist on the bleu/blanc/rouge colour scheme.

Jennie

A Little Bit French makes me think of blowsy flowers, birdcages and the colour pink!  I have no idea why! but here it all is brought together in a tag in a pocket.  I had great fun using Tim's French embossing folders and gesso helped to tone down the Victorian Velvet Distress Ink.  The flower was made using the Tattered Florals Die, moulding the paper while it was still wet.

Anne

I went to Paris, once, in the Spring time and my lasting memory is that of the Eiffel Tower, so I used several dies and embossing folders, some Letterpress and  inked my Tim Holtz Paris Memoir stamp set to create a little hanging.

Terry

"A Little Bit French" inspired me to create a canvas hanging using various papers, stamps, dies, etc., from Mr. Holtz! Having never been to Paris, a girl can travel the world in her dreams and so I did.

Brenda

This lovely lady lives in Paris and spends her life writing letters and poetry and dreaming of the day when her fine beau comes back from war, she's hoping it could be any time soon. She loves her fine clothes, beautiful French perfume and buys lots of creams and lotions to help her keep looking good. C'est la vie.

Well for me springtime in Paris evokes feelings of romance and what better excuse that to have a play with some new goodies to create a collage style piece, using soft colours and hopefully a hint of vintage romance

Annie

Love this challenge theme and it gave me the opportunity to use some of my treasured Tim Holtz French Industrial Papers. I also used Tim's Embossing folders , Sizzix Dies, New Ephemera pieces, Rub Ons and Idea-Ology. Have fun and I look forward to viewing your projects. xx
