MC Dec/15 - Bendi Card - ECD Danke, Thank You, Merci - Give Thanks

http://yogiemp.com/HP_cards/MiscChallenges/MiscChallenges2015/MCDec15_BendiCard_Danke,ThankYou,Merci_GiveThanks.html

Elizabeth Craft Designs has come out with another 14 fabulous "A Way With Word" dies designed by Suzanne Cannon from Quietfire Design ("Danke", "Thank You", "Merci"). I LOVE the International words. they just lend something "je ne sais quoi" (I don't know what...) to a project... And I guess I had to make another Bendi card ROFL. This time I made it with tab/slots instead of slits.

The die cutting technique I'm using for the words is an "off the edge" technique and I explained it a bit more in detail on my website. Just click on any card image to see all the details and descriptions and more views etc. Enjoy

I'm also using 100# Soft Finish cardstock for my word dies and then colored with Pan Pastels.

MC May/15 - Quilled Flowers - Sing As If - Music Expresses - HB

http://yogiemp.com/HP_cards/MiscChallenges/MiscChallenges2015/MCMay15_QuillFlowers_SingAsIf_MusicExpresses_HB.htmlI made the quilled petals at my last quilling session and finally got around to making a card with them... I'm using stuff that was on my desk or stash (the birds, leaves embossed background, leaf sprigs & bow).

One of the challenges called for using musical instruments or musical notes, hence the music background. I'm using some Chocolate Baroque stamps I purchased in January of 2012 and I think this is the first time I'm using that flower sprig. And I don't think I've used the Music quote in a couple years - was definitely time to resurrect it because it's one I really love. It always amazes me how time has passed when I look at something and realize how long it's been since I've owned or used something.

I'm very pleased with this card.

I'm using a Birthday sentiment, and two quote stamps ("The Woods Would Be Very Silent" 5pce set); ("Music Expresses that.." ) from Quietfire Design.

Anyway you can see all the details and descriptions and more views by clicking on any card image. Enjoy

And it fits for these challenges:

http://yogiemp.com/HP_cards/MiscChallenges/MiscChallenges2015/MCMay15_QuillTulipsFrameCard_BeccaPocketDies_HB_TheWoods.htmlAnd another very productive quilling session... I demo'ed using Brusho's and Colour burst to my quill group and ended up using some for this card... I finished making more tulips. Decided on what my background for this would be... that took a while BIG GRIN and then when my friends left I put it all together adding more and more elements as usual. ROFL.

Anyway you can see all the details and descriptions and more views by clicking on any card image. Enjoy

I'm using Quietfire Design quote and sentiment stamps. And the die set I'm using from Becca's new release is available on Quietfire Design as well. Here

Demco & Brusho Pigment Powders - Feathers

I think I mentioned a little while back that someone from my quilling group enticed me to buy "Brusho" powdered paints... which I did. I picked up the 24pack from ColourCrafts in the UK. 27.80£ which with shipping came to $80.51 Cdn.

I had asked what's so special about these powders. Why not just buy pigment powders in an art store... probably a lot cheaper in the long run that way.

So this past weekend I picked up a few powder pigments by Demco (Cadmium Yellow Deep Azo, Burnt Umber, & Lamp Black) as well as some Neuberg Ebel "Sparkle Pearl" powder.

Safety: using any pigment powders, please take care and use proper respiratory equipment (face mask).

I cut a quick mask from some scrap cardstock on my table. Taped it to a Canson Biggie piece of CP watercolor paper (back side which is smoother). The feather on the left is using the Demco powders and the Sparkle Pearl. The one on the right uses Brusho's (Yellow, Dark Brown, Black, Gamboge).

Although I like both feathers, the Brusho did disperse more easily. There is quite a difference between the two feathers, even though I tried to use similar colors... also the Brusho powders are more set when dry and don't seem to come off when I wipe my finger over it, whereas the Demco will definitely need a fixative. I was still able to move color around on the Brusho feather with a wet paint brush.

I started by wetting the paper through the mask with a flat brush, sprinkled the powder and then misted with water. allowed the colors to move and blotted up areas that were too wet. removed the mask and while paint was still wet, used the small end of a balled stylus to scratch my feather details - quick flick movement.

Click on image to enlarge. Enjoy

The only really negative thing I have to say about the Brusho product, is I really don't like that the lid doesn't come off easily and I have to punch a hole in the top to sprinkle out the color.

OK I was totally frustrated not getting this lid off so I used a screw driver to pry it off. I definitely can not get it off using only my fingers... Sigh!!

I'm adding on to this post:
I inked up a RubberNecker "Tulips" watercolor stamp using Versamark. Sprinkled some of the Brusho onto an acrylic plate and picked up the color with a dry paint brush and dabbed it onto the inked stamp. Misted with water and stamped onto the w/c paper. The image on the right is a 3rd generation stamping. I had started to wipe my stamp clean and then stopped... stamped onto my blotter and realized I could get more stamping... so misted lightly again and stamped another image - hence the 3rd generation...
