That damned frog stole my levels! Fake femcel shit

I have seen that Final Fantasy Tactics is really liked. I gave a look at the recently released version present on Steam, but there's people suggesting the War of The Lions one. What's the differences? There's a version playable on Duckstation that is worthy the try?
>>4015728Afaik there are some new campaigns, most are funny fanfic, some are decent.>advanceChildren games lacking the conspiracy and drama.
>>4015738>Children games lacking the conspiracy and drama. It's just underutilized potential. Like we don't see how the adults reaction that they got turned into lizards and dogs in the first game. It's just a GBA game with very limited scope after all.
>>4015728I enjoyed the FFT 1.3 difficulty mod, but that was years ago. Not usually a fan of difficulty hacks but there were good ideas on in there also. Main gripe is over-reliance on charm to make things more difficult. I also never finished it, so ymmv. I heard that by the end you are funneled into a frustratingly narrow set of strategic options but can't confirm or deny such claims.
>>4015718>having to attack your own units That's not the game's autism, that's yours. You don't need to play the game twice, you'll just want to if you have good taste. It's both fun to experiment and explore the classes and mechanics, and it's fun to plan for specific optimized builds. Can't have both experiences at the same time no matter what the game.
>>4015745>charmShit game.
>Play this JRPG inspired game because I had nothing to do and wanted to go through my backlog>It's sovlful but a bit jankI was a bit surprised by this game. I thought it would've been boring like all the other indie JRPGs that get released nowadays, but I was pleasantly surprised by the fun combat with great pixel art and tight pacing. I also like how there's no irony poisoned writing and it's all played completely straight, I didn't expect to like the cast. I thought I would've disliked the concept but there was a lot of thought put behind it and I quite enjoyed it. Though once you get the wizard you can just skip and traverse through the entire map if you know how to juggle his jumps properly, and I kept falling off because I thought I landed on a platform only for me to fall off. Also the balance of this games becomes way too easy once you stack up on buffs and you can one shot all the hard and secret bosses. Other than that, it's like an 8/10 game and I think /vrpg/ would like it.Had a nice few tracks too, especially the airship theme was fantastic.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U69mnWY7c8shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLy24qkRbp8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KFASbt49uchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puU9ufLXmIU
>>4012796It would be rad if they make a strategy guide for Quartet like they did for Shadows of Adam.
>>4012613>le wacky settingNon buynary
>>4012613It is better than Sea of Stars for sure, but I still rate it lower than Chained Echoes.I tolerate and find the platforming OK. Not as intrusive as CP.The protagonist is just another dumb hotheaded shonen protag unfortunately.Yet to complete it, but so far decent.>>4012796You mean that crossover game by the 8-bit adventures dev? I already doubt that it will be good.
>>4012709ThisIt's the second time OP is making this thread, too
>>4012796I finished it earlier this year. It's good, but repetitive. Limited enemy variety and constantly reused tile sets. Also way too easy, even on hard mode. You effectively have an infinite supply of items that let you spam the strongest skills every turn. You also stop getting new skills long before reaching the level cap. The towns feel very artificial. More like dungeons than towns. The world map is also a nightmare to navigate when you have the ship and can travel between the worlds.
Since a Romancing thread went awhile, how about a general discussion of the assorted SaGa games? The original gameboy series, known as Final Fantasy Legend in the west, the Romancing series on the SNES which the west didn't get until the mobile remasters and Minstrel Song remake, the Frontier series for the PlayStation... and the other stuff that has it's fans probably maybe.A hodgepodge of divergent and experimental jrpgs, from the usual Squaresoft fare and even from it's own series or within each series, made by the annoying contrarians and heretics within Square who got given shoestring budgets and left to make what they want.
>>4014215>>4014253>>4014294Isn't that balanced by spells in Unlimited being a veritable pain in the ass to get compared to most games?
>>4014211>12-timeskip 4000 year playthroughI did the opposite: a 2-timeskip 1106 year playthrough. Technically I could have shaved off another year if I killed Gerard but the goal was to go through the minimum number of emperors. I think Hiraga the 7th was the one that gave me the windmaker in the final generation. That playthrough had some similarities to the suicide-until-final 1019 year playthrough but was still fairly different. The main challenge was to power up fast enough to kill heroes without going beyond a 48-year timeskip, plus some tools were unavailable in the final generation.
>>4014294Imo what Unlimited really nailed was that almost no basic spell ever feels useless at any point due to how scaling and game resources work, in previous games outside of maybe SF2 you'd often have many spells like Fireball become totally useless from the midgame onwards but it's not the case in Unlimited, almost every single basic spell from Fire Arrows to Shock can stay relevant all the way into the endgame without invalidating the more powerful spells like Thunderbringer or the various fusion spells simply because you're not guaranteed to get them at all, so basic spells must be consistently reliable. The shift to a more complex balance system and the fixed elemental scores means casters are harder to build but can also squeeze every single bit of utility their core options have.It also helps that magic in Unlimited has lots of flavour for power fantasy and immersion purposes, tablets are frustrating to play around but it's a really cool system that reminds me of Dark Sun in some ways.>>4014302Yeah, Familiars can carry you when it comes to the basics but a real caster want to learn spells by grinding Magic Tablets and praying to the RNG gods for a L4/Forbidden tablet to get the good shit like Thunderbringer, Psycho Noise, Detect Blood etc., and of course Magic Blender.
When I see short gameplay clips of Unlimited Saga, no one bothers using the element level boost spells or getting the right element in the reel when casting. Are the benefits of hitting the right element on the reel really that inconsequential?
>>4015611Element level boosters like Fire Veil are not terrible but the reason why they're largely ignored is because Unlimited's buffing system favors Meditation stacks over the element boosters, most enemies aren't tough enough to warrant the squeeze in power since iirc the boost is just like +1 element? Your Element score also only affect HP damage. When it comes to field modifier spells like Overgrowth and the effect on modifying the reel iirc it's like 5% more HP damage for hitting the correct element tile, which I guess stacks up if you really wanna minmax through multiple buffs and combos but you'd still rather spend turns keeping up Meditation rather than fighting the combo reel. The actual value of those spells is that hitting the correct element tile also gives a considerable boost to exp gain when it comes to learning spells from tablets, which is notable since not many quests actually give you innate field tuning for Wood or Water, let alone Forbidden if you do happen to be lucky enough to get Ice Nine, so popping up some Overgrowth or Rainbringer to maximize EXP gain and speed up tablet grinding is usually a good idea, but even there it sorta depends on your team composition and how lucky you get with tablets.
