Thanks so much! Very glad to hear you had a good time with the game 🧑

If you ever want to revisit the game, there are a lot of hints in the comments here what you can do in the back of Coconut Island. But it's just a small thing to reward further exploration 😊

Thanks so much! πŸ™
You're an absolute legend 🧑

Thanks 😊

Thank you 🧑🧑🧑

Well, the main problem is that this was my very first Game Boy project ever. Since then I have learned quite a lot. So, if I ever picked the development of that game up again, I would very likely want to redo most of the scripting. This is really what's deterring me the most. On the other hand I have working prototypes for games, that I find more interesting at the moment.

Not working on it at the moment. I'm prioritizing other projects. While I wouldn't want to promise that I ever pick it up again, I wouldn't rule it out either. But thanks for your interest 😊

Thanks so much 🧑🧑🧑

Glad you like it. I wouldn't mind. Feel free to use it. But thanks for asking 😊

Thanks a lot 😊

I originally thought about adding lots and lots of different islands with villages to build. But I think that would make the first island feel a lot less special and the connections with the villagers less meaningful. That could have turned the experience into a checklist. I wanted to keep it condensed to make it more personal and memorable.

🧑

Hi, glad to hear you enjoyed the game and thanks for the offer. If I ever get to turn this game into a full release, I may come back to you. But since the full version would have an entirely different story, it wouldn't really make sense to put any effort into updating the dialogue that would become obsolete. I think that time would be much better spent working on the full release 😊

Makes perfect sense πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Thank you πŸ™

Hey, I finally got to watch it. First of all, thanks for sharing my game and thanks for letting me know about your video. You absolutely nailed the interpretation of the intention behind the metaphors I put in the game. Amazing job!

Also, I think you're spot on with pointing out the shortcomings of the game. If I ever revisit this game, I'll definitely make sure to improve in these areas.

I was just surprised you picked Ghost of the Arcade and not Doomslinger Dungeon for the Halloween theme (that one actually has a pumpkin boss) πŸ˜„

It's not shown in the video but did you use the gacha machines?

I don't know whether retrospiel will ship to the US. But you can check their online shop and see whether you can chose your address as a shipping address and it shows you available shipping methods. That's probably the easiest way to find out.

But the physical version of this game is not released yet.

You're welcome 😊

On the controls screen, the d-pad is labled "aim / move". But that's easy to miss and doesn't really go into detail.

The character (well, the hand with the gun) moves horizontally along with the chrosshair. So, you control both - the crosshair and the character. Just move to the sides when an enemy attacks :)

Thank you 😊

I'd have to watch you play to give you specific tips. But in general, you can avoid all attacks once you learn the enemies' patterns. I usually play through the game without dying once.

But that does take some practice. Most new players die within the first 10 fights of their first playthrough πŸ˜„

No, thank you for playing 🧑

Thanks so much 🧑

Thanks 😊

Haha, thanks so much πŸ™πŸ˜Š

Well, the main game of the Deluxe version isn't really any longer. Just more polished. But there's a bit of additional post-game content. Hope you will enjoy your time as a little circle with stick limbs again πŸ˜„

Thank you 🧑
Please remember me, when you become a billionaire πŸ˜„

Glad to hear you enjoyed it 😊

Thanks! Glad you liked it 😊

I'm really sorry to hear you had a bad experience travelling to Germany πŸ˜”
Which places have you been to?
Just out of curiosity - what revealed me as a German? πŸ€”πŸ˜…

What a perfect game to enjoy this game 😊
Very happy to hear you enjoyed playing the game. And yes, I wished the world was a friendlier place πŸ₯²

Thank you 😊

Thanks a lot! πŸ™

Thank you 😊
Not sure what kind of leaves they are either. But they worked within the 192 tile limit πŸ˜„

Thanks, yeah the hands are probably what I spent the most time on πŸ˜…

Thanks a lot! Love your's, too 🧑

You're talking about ModRetro, right? The physical release of this game will be done by retrospiel, a new publisher from Germany. Really nice guy with a small brick and mortar retro game store behind this πŸ˜Š

That being said, I am indeed working with ModRetro on another release. It's a project that could not have happened without them. In my personal opinion the best game I have ever made. Hope people will like it πŸ˜…

Yes, I wanted to include that. I even already created a couple of different weapon sprites for that. But I didn't have time to implement that until the deadline of the game jam. But if I ever revisit this game to turn it into a full release, that's definitely something I want to add.
Glad to hear you like the game 😊

Yes, that's the end of the game. Glad you managed to find the solution. Thanks a lot for playing 😊

Yes, you're in the right place. You probably need to go even higher within the sky area. When you reach a dead end, try jumping to the left as far as you can.

Have you ever thought about going into gaming journalism? That's a really great and concise review with very high information density. I wished all reviews would come straight to the point like you.

Anyways... I'm gald to hear you enjoyed the game. Thanks a lot for taking your time to write this review 😊

Thanks a lot 🧑
It's not really a typical Game Boy game, though. There were only very few first-person games on Game Boy (/ Color) back in the day,

Thanks so much 🧑
Submapping for the buildings, palette swapping for the street and the oncean and an animated actor for lamps / palm trees. That's the essence of how it's down. Acceleration / deceleration is not really possible to implement because of that as that could only be achieved by changing the animation framerate, making the animation look choppy at lower speeds.
