A narrative driven first-person horror game following the dying crew of a shipwrecked space freighter.
Who could have known what good ol’ Captain Curly was capable of? Guess he thought his crew dying alongside him was only right. But some men can’t even kill themselves properly. Maimed, limbless and unable to speak, but alive, Curly is now at the mercy of the crew he has doomed to a slow death.
The Pony Express long-haul galactic freighter Tulpar is stranded within an uncharted region of space. Emergency life support systems saved the Captain and crew of four. The ship will run out of power within six months, food rations long before that. Adrift far off their shipment route, they know the chance of rescue nears zero. Opening the cargo hold is strictly prohibited by the company, but the contents could mean a prolonged chance of survival.
In the space freighter industry, there’s a saying:
“Hope to die, or for goodness sake, pray that everyone else did.”

Take a closer look, guys, and you will find projects that cannot be purchased/downloaded on the site, but they are indexed.

But the others don't use a "Download" button to trick the user to go to their steam page. That other game doesn't have a download button.
"Ensure you have files uploaded to the project page. Your page must be purchasable, downloadable, or playable in the browser to be indexed. Empty placeholder pages will not be indexed."
The problem is not with the external link. Can't you even open the rules? Oh my God.
why not release it on itch? steam is not a drm service, I pirated it anyway
Just so people are aware: the Steam version of Mouthwashing does not have DRM.
that's what I mean, there would be no difference in buying it on steam or itch, especially if some people prefer itch
Steam *is* a DRM.
tell me how you pirated it please
rutracker.org
thank you.
Incidentally, we analyzed Mouthwashing during a lecture in mid-June, and I didn’t buy it because *it wasn’t listed* on itch-io (some of my students tried it too) and only available on Steam. I repeat—here on itch-io, the game was already clearly 100% not listed as of last June.
This game hasn’t been indexed since October 2024 since it doesn’t meet our indexing criteria: https://itch.io/docs/creators/getting-indexed#why-isnt-my-project-showing-up
The developers are using a “Download” button as a link to Steam. The developer took down any playable files from this page in 2024.
Why, given your recent history, do we not believe that explanation?
@sanjihimura, I can't blame you. But you can see for yourself on the wayback archive from last october, the download button is an external link. https://web.archive.org/web/20241009033637/https://kasuraga.itch.io/mouthwashing . I dunno why itch allows external links to be made if they are against the rules.
They aren’t against the rules, we just don’t index placeholder pages or pages that are just links to somewhere else. We want people browsing the itch.io main site to be viewing games they can access on itch.io. That doesn’t mean you can’t, for example, use itch.io pages as a portfolio with your work that is hosted elsewhere. It just won’t be promoted by our discovery tools.
Just because a game is “deindexed” doesn’t mean it’s breaking the rules. It just means that we aren’t promoting it from the main site.
i am willing to believe this one, this once, because the download button does in fact link outside of itch. I didn't even know this was possible. and it is certainly very weird of kasuraga
Hi, looked at this myself after seeing this all develop on Bluesky.
In particular I checked that the criteria mentioned by Leafo isn't some new ad hoc excuse, it existed at least a year ago already.
https://web.archive.org/web/20240825160531/https://itch.io/docs/creators/getting...
And it very clearly states:
I would sincerely suggest showing a smaller platform like this as much solidarity as to the indie devs, they got ambushed with sudden demands from major companies they depend on to survive and had to take emergency actions, blaming them just distracts from lobby groups and financial companies responsible for this.
good explanation đź’Ş
That's the thing. While I will put the blame where it belongs, and admit that I was wrong, fact is that I don't need the lecture.
I just simply made a statement about Leafo's recent history and refused to believe the statement at the time. I still don't believe him as far as cowtowing as far as he did to the leftist idiots that got Steam.
Call me out if you must, but don't lecture.
Collective Shart is right wing actually.
1. The word is "kowtowing".
2. Collective Shout are right-wing fanatics based in Australia.
doesnt matter if they were "forced" (which they werent) they still decided to comply with their demands. the truth is FUCK VISA, FUCK MASTERCARD, FUCK COLLECTIVE SHOUT AAANNDDD FUCK ITCH.IO for complying with their retarded demands
While I do believe you that the game was delisted for the reasons you state and the devs/publisher are mistaking delisting for deletion, you really brought all of this negative attention upon yourselves. Shame on you.

Something's not right here. The project violates this rule, but it is indexed anyway. Hahaha...
FUCK ITCH.IO
Dude why was it removed
It was removed in 2024, dev is making shit up
They removed this game from search results! What the fuck?! Fuck itch.io
This is exactly what I was afraid of when the NSFW games purge started. I knew it wouldn't be limited to just smutty content and knew it would move to general adult content in games.
Censore creations/ideas will be always a bad way except for illegals projects (by the law) or scams. It will be a bad ad for itchio.
Censoring art and the internet is the worst thing they could do.
And it's starting to happen...
But mouthwashing isn't NSFW, at most those upcoming console ports would be rated M for mature. Not adults only.
Edit: I recently found out why mouthwashing wasn't indexed, now I'm confused as to why the devs would go out of their way to make an itch page, only for it to just link to the steam page?
Exactly. They were never going to stop at NSFW content, it was going to extend to any games about difficult topics.
So apparently it was deindexed because it only linked the steam page. Which has me confused as to why they made an itch page to begin with.
Ooooh, okay that makes sense. Just suspicious timing is all, I guess.
