Serving Flooded Communities in Louisiana and Mississippi

Samaritan's Purse volunteer teams are serving homeowners in Louisiana and another Disaster Relief Unit is en route to Mississippi as we respond to floods in the wake of Tropical Storm Arthur.

Remnants of Tropical Storm Arthur battered areas along the Gulf Coast with torrential rain and strong winds. The storm flooded hundreds of homes, knocked down trees and power lines, and prompted emergency water rescues.

Among the hardest hit areas is east central Louisiana where Arthur, the first tropical storm of the season, dumped nearly two feet of rain in 48 hours. Samaritan’s Purse responded to the storm’s devastation by sending a Disaster Relief Unit—a tractor-trailer filled with tools and supplies—and deploying volunteer teams in the region to help homeowners recover. We are focused on serving communities in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. Our base of operations in the Bayou State is Hessmer Baptist Church on 2927 Main Street.

We are also responding to hard-hit communities in Harrison County, Mississippi, where our teams have identified over 300 homes affected by flooding and in need of assistance. Another Disaster Relief Unit is en route to the region and volunteer teams will soon begin serving hurting homeowners in Jesus’ Name. In Mississippi, our host church will be First Baptist Church of Gulfport at 12190 MS-605.

VOLUNTEER IN LOUISIANA AND MISSISSIPPI

Across communities in Louisiana and Mississippi, Samaritan’s Purse volunteers are helping homeowners mud out flooded homes and basements, salvage personal belongings, and cut and haul any fallen trees in yards.

We hope weary families in the South see God’s love through the words and actions of our volunteers and staff. As our volunteers work, chaplains from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Rapid Response Team go house to house, praying over homeowners and sharing the hope of the Gospel.

Pray for all those reeling from these floods in Louisiana and Mississippi—that they would come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior through our work. Sign up to volunteer today with Samaritan’s Purse as the hands and feet of Jesus.
