Played it today, it is quite nice experience! Being diceless it means you can play it somewhere where dice would be cumbersome (or where you cannot bring them).
Gameplay wise I wonder if I read the rules correctly because I end up with a lot of loot and seldom in real trouble.
Mapping is always a joy and the final result looks always believable.
Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it! And appreciate the feedback.
For gameplay you're not wrong, the adventure elements are still very rough and need a lot more attention. Been a few years since I focused on this, I think it's time to dust it off and apply a lot of what I've picked up along the way.
I love this concept! Tried a mapmaking-only run just to engage and wondered if there is a creator-intended/endorsed method for dealing with total dead end situations?
I pulled a title starting with a dead end and acted like I climbed in from above and took the usual 'entrance' tunnel to continue the dungeon but figured there must be a more elegant way to deal with it...
This is awesome! One thing that I've noticed.
In zine format it says Beta 0.6, and in the single page format it says Beta 0.4...
Is this intended? Is the zine format more up to date then the single page format?
Thank you, and thanks for catching that. The only difference should be the formatting, but I'll work on an update to make sure everything' s in sync and roll out 0.7! Thanks!
Sounds good! I didn't do a deep comparison, but it did look like more then just formatting was different. I noticed the Monster/Treasure tables and what treasure does looked different, but that may be an error on my end.
There may be more differences, because as I said I didn't go over it too deeply.
Ack, thanks, definitely need to prioritize the cleanup. Had this on my "come back to" list and you've just helped bump it up! Thank you!
Happy to help! Also, I went through and wrote down the differences that I noticed.
What the pages format has differently from the zine format-
Title page
Index
Example dungeon is on page 4, not at back
Classes/spells
Different monster table; no minotaur/cyclops in 0.6
Monster hp explanation different
Actions different because of classes
Pages loot table doesn't have "nothing" entries, has magic potions
Different order of armour table/weapons table
I think I caught all of the differences, but I may be wrong.
Oh, just remembered, one key difference is there are no classes in the zine version. That was a decision for the sake of space.
I did see that- might be something cool to keep for future editions, but it does take up a lot of space.
honestly kind of addicting. I tend to have the end goal for my hero to ‘escape’ the dungeon through an unfinished path. Already have two dungeons from this I’m ruminating on how to reuse for other games.
Ha, sounds fun, let me know if you ever share an actual play, would love to see how it works out!
So!
Who's running House Of Leavea using this?
Love the zine!
But could you add borders around the pages, for easier folding?
Thank you in advance : )
Woah, so sorry I left this hanging for so long. Let me see what I can do, tho.
I love this. Can’t wait for the final release!
Thanks, and me too!
What a cute little system! Will be checking it out with my fav book
Thanks and enjoy!
To clarify the combat example, the vampire ("N") is defeated, so the loot is an Axe ("O") and Boots ("W")?
Close - Axe (O) and Helm (W). Boots are X.
Well, if I could read a lookup table, that would be a bonus. :)
