Perfect Pitch (18+) v0.8
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
PERFECT PITCH (18+)
A game about music, romance, and the covid-19 pandemic as a convenient plot device.
Perfect Pitch is set in the American Midwest in late summer 2020. Just before the crescendo of covid cases later that year which would mark one of the deadliest winters on record.
You are an up-and-coming multi-instrumentalist (named Miles by default) who is presented with a rather unique opportunity: a full-ride scholarship to the internationally renowned, all-girls music conservatory named Géante Endormie.
But this scholarship is no simple charity... you have a job to do. The future of your classmates, and the future of the Conservatoire, depends on it.
Enjoy your stay at Géante Endormie~

Hey there. First of all, I want to say this is one of my favorite stories of all time. I hadn't thought about the concert band and marching band parts of my life in any real seriousness since probably 2009. Having played through this game, I've picked my clarinet up again for the first time and am looking into what it would take to get it back into tip top shape after at least 15 years of sitting on a shelf. If I enjoy playing again long term, I'm even considering picking up flute and saxophone to complement it (woodwind life here). Thank you for helping me reconnect to my favorite part of being a teenager. All the characters are wonderful, I especially love Kaylyn, at every stage of the story. The story feels very authentic to me, having spent a good 10 years of my life in band culture. I even remember hearing about the debates my brass and percussion friends had about whether drum corps was really worth it.
I also wanted to note that I've found an annoying bug that I'm hoping to get past. I went and bought all the photos in the photo albums, but when I bought the one in the Math Folder for Alexis, the game briefly froze, went back to the main screen, and the following text appeared at the top of the screen:
"Couldn't find the file 'images/Buttons/temp/galalexisleepoverh.webp'."
This doesn't seem to impact gameplay at all, it's just ugly on the screen. Comes right back after closing and reopening the game. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you again for this absolutely wonderful game!
Hey friend! I appreciate hearing that this project inspired you to explore a musical side of yourself that you haven't connected with in some time. Music is really interesting in the way that we can recall with perfect clarity a tune we heard a decade ago, while at the same time being hardly able to remember what we had for dinner last night. Important to remember that the musical and creative sides of ourselves are always there, even if we haven't had a chance to consciously and intentionally interact with those parts of ourselves for some time.
As for the troubleshooting question, I'm thinking this might be something that I patched at some point down the road but never made a formal announcement for. Based on the description you provide (assuming it's a copy paste) what's missing is as follows in bold and underlined:
"images/Buttons/config/temp/galalexisleepoverh.webp"
In my working file, that is located at line 12498 of the file called screens.rpy. I don't know what would happen if you updated that line of code in a live, unpackaged version of the game, but conceivably that would solve the issue. Of course that could also mess it all up irreparably. I'm not knowledgeable enough about coding to do much besides follow basic instructions on ren'py forums!
Hope that helps, and if not, at least by the time v0.9 is released the error should disappear.
I'm getting an error (rollback/Ignore) when I try to follow up with Jenna after Band Camp and after she sends me the long document and says would should speak, I've re-downloaded the game and have reloaded saves from before this event but no change.
I'm not seeing any dead giveaways in the code for this error, but that could be because I am looking in the wrong spot. What exactly do you click on to trigger the error? Is it "Visit Jenna's Office" after school? Or is it somewhere else?
Another question to help me troubleshoot: are you able to replay Here There and Everywhere from the bottom of the band camp main event menu? Jumping to the brief exchange in Jenna's office requires the variable hereThereEverywhereDone to be true, and if you're able to replay the event, then this indicates that the variable is true.
The error comes after the event of Here there and everywhere. The MC wakes up in his room with Lizzie and Emily after the fall. Lizzie leaves and Emily leaves shortly thereafter. The MC tries to sleep and gets a text from Jenna (large document) and message to talk with Jenna. I try to talk to Jenna at the end of the next school day (Work for Jenna). The MC gets to her office and gets the note the she is called away. Trying to progress by entering the office to do paperwork results in the Error message. Pressing Ignore multiple time defaults out to the Scene at the A Wing dorm with Willow at the door (obvious error). Aside from this, Perfect Pitch has become one of my top 2 AVN (Unbroken being the other). Your writing, visuals and soundtrack are spectacular. I become surprisingly invested in the story.
Oops. Found the error two weeks ago in the v0.8 code, made the update, but forgot to acknowledge it here.
Thanks for pointing this out. Just a simple mistake on my part of omitting a jump statement at the end of an event. Looks like I already had it corrected in my working file of the game but it wasn't fixed in the v0.8 release. This error will be remedied in the next update.
And thanks too for the positive feedback on the project! I'm glad to hear that you found meaning in the music and the story.
No problem. I'm glad you found something and appreciate the response regardless of timing. My daughter in law was in the marching band in college and I never realized how much effort really went into that activity. A topic for discussion when next I see her.
