Ahoy Caretakers,

We’ve been reviewing save games, error reports, and feedback, and have just pushed a new hotfix focused on stability and persistence issues. This update continues our work to make The Last Caretaker more reliable with every patch.

Fixes & Improvements

Fixed save persistence issues that could corrupt stored zones.
Improved boat stability during loading to prevent broken attachments.
Fixed dismantling issues while on a moving boat.
Corrected dismantle loot data for SoilForge Prime.
Fixed door-related issues.
Improved object restoration and validation to prevent unintended deletions.
Fixed several forklift, attachment, and level-loading edge cases.

As always, your reports help guide these fixes. Please keep sending feedback through the in-game reporting tools or Discord — we read it all.

I enjoyed the game, but unfortunately I can't play it anymore.

Every time the ship stops, every time I wait a little while, things start flying off my ship. Sometimes Typhoons leave the ship. Sometimes my fuel tanks detach. Sometimes, despite how neatly I've prepared everything, my cables come loose and fly around haphazardly. In one hour, I had to dismantle and rebuild my wind turbines three times and my fuel tanks twice. I'm clearly outraged. I won't play until this is fixed....

Whats New

New locations and quests: The Warehouse opens for business, a new Hangar, caves, Habitat Nodes and secrets to uncover.
New items and modules: Forklift DONK-LIFT 3200 “Not your first choice. But the one you’re stuck with”, Compost Modules (Mark I & Mark II) and updates to recycler systems, Binoculars, Telescope, Night Vision Goggles, Health Injector, Underwater water-functional glowsticks, basketball game, horn with tunes.
New enhancements & achievements.
Round of fixes: tuning, crash fixes, stability and performance improvements.

The Big Fixes

Fixed multiple boat issues, including engine audio mismatches, loading problems, and collisions.
Fixed dismantle/repair targeting errors and walls blocking actions.
Fixed consumable behavior, resource usage, and checks for batteries, injectors, and other items.
Fixes to door-blocking logic, teleport cheats, ability releases, and grouped actor consumption issues.
Fixed fabricator placement detection and issues with modules failing to connect or disconnect properly.
Fixed NPC physics welding issues, dismantle logic, corpse collisions, and AI spawner problems.
Fixed save-related issues, including continue game selection and auto-save detection.
Fixed unlocking issues in some of the achievements.
Fixed collisions for props such as chairs, boat interiors, rubber trash, flashlights, and others.

Early Access Review

This is an enjoyable game that scratches the open world survival craft itch, but I can't recommend in the current early access stage.

The Good
The graphics and environment look great.
Satisfying gameplay loop: scavenge, craft, explore.

The OK
Interface decisions: single keys are used for multiple, non-complementary actions. For example, left mouse button both fires, grabs, opens, and generally "interacts". If you enter a room and start shooting, then turn towards something grabbable while firing, your intent was probably to stop shooting and grab that table, right? Cancel build/reel/holster are all the same button, leading to frustrating situations after laying out multiple build queues.

Short content: The current amount of content is probably 25-30 hours. There is an end-game loop after that, but no real reason to do so besides just to continue playing, presumably this will be relevant in future updates.

The Bad
The game in the current state is not well optimized, frame rates drop dramatically with often no obvious reason why.

Frequent crashes to desktop with no auto-save. The save system is easy, but more of a "milestone" type, where you save at a limited number of save stations (easily accessible). The frequent unexpected crashes to desktop meant I ended up spamming these save slots every few minutes, rather than after an accomplishment as I suspect was the intention.

Major collision bugs. In the current state, items built on your ship will occasionally attach to structures when docked (appears as free floating in the air). These can not be detached without disassembling, and the ship will be stuck in place until then. This can lead to resource loss for items like tanks or batteries (yes, new tanks can be built and the resources transferred prior to disassembly, but I had one instance with 4 tanks clipped far enough off the ship that the connectors were not accessible).

Power and connector issues. Plugging and unplugging cables and hoses is a core gameplay mechanic, and just doesn't work correctly sometimes. In several key plot points, the currently accepted solution for everything being connected properly but not working is to exit the game and reload, after which it will work fine. In some cases this is expected (for example, a battery may be needed to buffer power spikes), and in other areas it's simply just a bug that needs a restart.

The Game Breaking
There are a handful of reported game breaking bugs. One that I've located so far that required reverting back to a previous save, In the first seed vault, if you are holding a Lazarus pod while you open the seed fridge, the pod will vacuum up the seed, check the quest task box, but not actually load the seed into the pod. You can effectively and unintentionally remove all seeds in this vault from the game by doing this.

This game really has potential, but with the current performance issues and bugs I wouldn't recommend it at this point in early access.

Early Access Review

I enjoyed this game for 21 hours....and then my boat got stuck. The way saves work there was no way to go back to a previous save. As soon as I load into my game, I am looking at my boat which is parked next to a dock. It suddenly gets dragged underneath the dock by some unseen force and from then who knows. I've tried loading in about 10 times and every time something different but all equally insane happens to my boat but it never unsticks itself.

Theres no way I am going to start over at this point. I googled it only to discover many other players all having the same problem.

this is a very light yes closer to NO , the last update absolutely ruined the game. they give you a ship and expect you sail from voyage to voyage but before the recent update you could build on your ship deck, could add solar and batteries or wind turbines, but now nothing sits on the ship it just keeps falling off and bugging out , another thing is the save function if you loose track time and dont save the game there is no quick save feature. so you can loose hours of work, there needs to be a quick save module like the injector so if your not near a save point you can save the game. has HUGE oppertunities but currently they need fix some issues
